You wrote this well and expressed yourself in a fairly inoffensive way-as per your notes-there is no way this is not political! You wrote well and your picture matches well with your writing.

Marvelously well written. It is fun and a delightful read. While no satire intended, it can lead one down that road as well as telling the truth and in diversity. You lead your reader to their own interpretation. A rare gift indeed.

There is a wonderful and truthful message in this story. Trust seems to be the missing link and that is why he sits alone today.
He lied, he cheated his friends and all for his own vanity and ego. There is quite a morale in this story and one I hope people will recognize and remember.
Very enjoyable.

I do not agree that there is no political satire intended. It sounds like a politician's actions. At first, I felt you had Biden in mind, then some references dinged kind of Trumpish, but all in all just some stupid Politician with no Agenda.

Your poem itself and probably most people's response to it seems to indicate that events of the past couple of years have worked their way into our lives subliminally, where any mention of orange is 'coloured' by what we have seen and read about a certain Don. And why did you pick that name when there are so many other names in the world to choose? Talk about a bad apple!
I enjoyed your poem as the story unfolded - very engaging, with a strong message.

I really enjoyed this poem -are you really really sure there was no political satire intended? Lol. Well, I put my own into it, and enjoyed it all the more. But of course, it can't be offensive to anyone if it is just a poem about fruit - and I am sure there are lots of oranges called Don! Really well done. Congratulations!

If you write political satire and claim it's a story about fruit, is that part of the irony of the piece, I wonder? How clever to transfer the interpretation solely to the reader! Who can we blame but ourselves if we "read into this" recent history--the bitter orange taste still clinging to our coated tongues!
Anyone who one stars you would be revealing their own biases...about fruit of course...

This was indeed a very cute children's poem that can teach about judging those by the color of their skin. I thought the rhyming was nice and the poem quite unique. Great job.
