At last the truth. When men take it upon themselves to sacrifice themselves for someone unworthy of such sacrifice, disaster often occurs. Old man Joliffe, with his staunch principles put his son in an uncompromising position that snowballed everything else into the situation that was exasperated by the tragedy of Warburton losing all his sheep. It will be comforting to have at least one or two more people knowing the truth. I do not believe that the town people need to know as it would change little or nothing in how they think and feel about the people who are all dead now anyway.

I was amazed to read that Tom Warburton had confessed his love to Heather before he left. I thought he'd taken that to his grave. Tommy's confession to Heather that he was a bit of a Peeping Tom (Is that an Americanism?) when he watched Hettie with her various lovers, was courageous. And her response funny!
Sorry that I have no sixes, friend, but I do want you to add me to your list of buyers when your book is published. I think it will sell hig-time.

Thank you for both this review and your promise to buy in the future. My first novel, an unrelated one that was posted here in 2019/20 under my own name, James Bartlett, entitled 'A Reluctant Star' is now available on Amazon, and there is a link to this on my profile here.
The term Peeping Tom originated in Britain in the story of Lady Godiva of Coventry. It doesn't get used much these days since there is better porn on your computer than in an old folk tale., but the expression is well understood, at least by our generation.

PANTYGYNT:
It appears that Lawyer Allen may be about to get some
information extremely valuable to his investigation. I
am as anxious to hear it as he is, I believe.

Now I'm wondering what is left to tell Allen. It seems we know all the details that we didn't know. This feels almost like the end of the story.
I'm happy to know that Heather and Tommy have such a healthy relationship and that they both seem happy. It is very well written and interesting and I've enjoyed it from the beginning.

Thank you for this kind review./ Yes, the end of this stage of an on-going series is approaching, but there is plenty more still to come.

It's so nice to have this glimpse into the domestic lives of Tommy Bache and Heather. What a warm and loving relationship they have. I'm glad Heather knew of Tom Warburton's love for her before he left, too, being a romantic at heart.
It is so often the case too that, if the right questions aren't asked, then much is never revealed.
I was going to query 'crowner' but obviously that was common usage for the couple.
I had to search hard to come up with any suggestions. However, for what they're worth....
Then, when her mother died there was the duty, to her grief-stricken father. - comma after 'died'. Delete comma after 'duty'
On his death she had felt the call to fulfil a similar duty to her brother, even though he had been devoted to selfish, pursuits, just having a good time. - comma after 'death'. Delete comma after 'selfish'
'He wunna the faither o' Hettie's babby, Heather. He cunna ever have been, not if he loved you. - speech mark needed at end.
My Tom had found them, all dead up there on the Hill, along of Arthur Rowlands their shepherd and all.' - comma after 'Rowlands' and maybe 'shepherd'
'Thank you Hettie,' she said with a smile, 'wherever you be.' - comma after 'Thank you'
Heather could even feel a pang of pity now for her brother Tom. - comma after 'brother'
Looking forward to what Allen makes of it all.
Stay safe

I apologise for making you work harder, while being pleased at the same time. Lol. FYI, the term 'crowner', as far as I can gather, is a period colloquial term rather than a regional one. Clearly it is a contraction of 'coroner' and was in common use throughout the country pre 1945. The Butler education act of 1944 raised the level of education across the country considerably but, in doing so, robbed us of some delightful colloquialisms. I think this must have been one of them.
Many thanks for your continued assistance with this story.

Dear Jim, In this chapter I finally got the answer that I was waiting for so long.
In addition, all your readers got the whole story from the dialogue between Tommy Bach and Heather, so you will not need to repeat it when, Peter Allen finally meets with them.

You have the bare bones of it here but maybe there is more detail yet to come. Many thanks for your appreciative review.

I'm so pleased we got to learn that part. I always wanted Heather to know the truth of My Tom's love for her. That he told her what his hopes and dreams were, to have his own sheep farm and marry her, was so nice. Now perhaps Peter can write My Tom up as the hero he truly was. I wait to see what happens next. I really enjoyed this part, it made me feel a lot better. :)) Sandra xxx

LOL!! I told you that you would pass me soon, and it won't be temporary. I want to see you up to number one! And you'll do it because of your talented writing, not because you bullied people to review you. xxx

Brilliant! marvellous! wonderful! These are Salt of the Earth people. Their values and morals are those I can really relate to. Heather is a shining light of decency, how glad I am she loves her husband as much as she does. He deserves it though, with his clear, uncomplicated outlook on life and his honest beliefs. The best part of this chapter is Heather's response to Tommy's confession. She accepts it with a chuckle and a kiss and a "Thankyou "to Hettie, 'Where-ever you be." That would have rung the bells of Heaven loud and clear. Hettie may have heard them and smiled in her sleep.
Well, the next chapter should be veeeery interesting. Peter Allen is about to get what he wants from Heather, but it opens another can of worms doesn't it? If it wasn't suicide, is someone else responsible for the death of Hettie and her unborn child? The plot thickens.Cheers Cass

Thank you for this wonderful, six-star review. You have put your finger right on it here. There is always a can of worms waiting to be opened in this story.

This would make a movie tragedy to obliterate the likes of any, "Gone with the wind" theme. A romantic tragedy rivalling "Romeo and Juliet", "Goodbye Mr Chips" and all those bitter sweet themes, in fact Peter Allen has got it right when addressing suicides, Tom's was as dramatic and as noble as his life. Well done Jim, great writing, blessings Roy
Typo : selfish(,) pursuits.

It sounds like Heather's Tom was a bit of a hero, giving her up and protecting her family by implicating himself, I wonder if such things like this ever happened back then. Scandals were pushed under the carpet or other innocent people were blamed for them. It sounds like Allen will learn the truth soon, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Yes, I think you are right. TW is the most conventionally heroic of my characters. Many thanks for your continued support.
