So easy to read...you don't let gobbledegook get in the stream of your words. Very enjoyable story bitten off at a good point and leaving the reader panting for more. I did read rather slowly as some of the technicals are unfamiliar to me and I want to learn them. You have a good way of presenting images...lovely work.

Thank you so much for this encouraging review.

Some interesting new knowledge gained, that the lad Tom Bache had inherited the mill, then married into farm property, while Thomas Warburton had a penchant for putting himself into harm's way, was indeed suicidal. The latter doesn't surprise me overly; he seemed bereft of all hope at the end of the other book.
I know little about the ranking system in Europe. I trust that my understandings of the twists and turns of fortune in the future won't pivot on my lack of said knowledge of sergeant vs. sergeant-major.

No sergeants whether major or otherwise are not important. So I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Many thanks for your continued interest.

We are slowly being filled in with the history of what happened in the years since the first book ended, and maybe some secrets will be revealed as time goes on, a congenial meeting, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Jim,
I see you plan to take us round the world to get to the stopping point. But that's okay - a straight-in story would be boring, no doubt. This is nice -
Notes:
1.) 'Well, I'm blowed!' said Allen. (')I never knew that. I have seen Chesterfield's of course, was there for the assizes on a case a couple of years ago.(')
2.) 'I thought you said it was your sergeant major - Warburton - that brought you here.(') The rector's kindly face frowned in puzzlement.
3.) 'That was one of Warburton's, favourite expressions.
--> no comma
Thanks a bunch!

Is that Hettie's Tom? I really wonder if he ever found out about the baby? It's why he committed suicide? Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next chapter.

Wow, I am curious to see if they got together at the end:

I find this very interesting. I'm glad we'll learn more about Tom Warburton even though he died in the war. So the other Tom is dead as well and his sister is married to the one who used to be the helper at the mill. I'm wondering what Allen's interest in the suicide is all about. I guess we'll learn the conversation with the Rector.

Gradually more and more will become clear as the jigsaw is pieced together. Thanks for your continued reviewing.

I'm afraid we will learn that Heather married Tom Bache and that may have contributed to Tom W's reckless behavior when in the military. This is a well written fireside chat between the two men who are spending a lovely evening together. I enjoyed it very much, Jim. Nancy:)

Hi Jim, this is a great new chapter and the interaction between to two is so very well described. I loved it. Now, of course I'm keen to learn what is to be revealed about our Tom. So very well written. Ulla:)))

This is very interesting. I can't wait to hear more. The conversation flows easily and seems very natural. Shropshire, isn't that where the series Cadfael is supposed to have their monastery? I love that show. How did Paddy and Penny like their Santa gifts? Did you have a lovely Christmas yourself?

Given the restrictions it wasn't a bad day at all. I think those two enjoyed themselves!
Yes Ellis Peters who wrote the Cadfael books is a Shropshire lass and Shrewsbury, where Cadfael's abbey was is the county town.
Thank you for the lovely six-star review

Terrific conversation flow, beautifully moving the action along. I have not seen the first chapter but was intrigued enough to want to read it, as well as the rest of the book. What a pleasure to read writing that displays a firm grasp of punctuation! Can't wait for the next installment.

Thank you so much for this complimentary review. I must pass on your compliment regarding punctuation to my editor (who actually hasn't seen this one yet) Lol.
