That is such a graphic illustration. It shows the punishment that was used in times gone by. Slaves were whipped. Those who received the lashings bore the scars forever. Your syllable count is right on, and the use of the color of blood is powerful. You make use of alliteration with blood and bite. judi

This is a great addition to the poem, Roy. It meets the syllable requirement for your stanza, of course, and is beautiful in it simplicity.

This poem made me think of Jesus' sufferings He endured just for us. How grateful and thankful I am for His willingness to suffer for me.

Oh, I never like to think about the Lord's suffering even before the cross but it was all part of His payment for our sins. Your illustration makes the poem's meaning clear. Thankful and humbled by His great sacrifice.
