Interesting change from the mystery tone of the previous part of the book and now, it's almost like entering the Twilight Zone. I wonder who is this mysterious person or if she's real? Or, what's in that water that they drank?
Suggestion:
" statuesque woman introduced herself as Kai Zita" (I think a dialogue here would really help to bring this character alive for the reader.)

You were right about the need for conversation. I'm pleased you recognized the Twilight Zone genre. You may hear Rod Serling intro in the next few chapters. You're closer with the questions than you think. As always, I appreciate your supportive review.
