What a cute little poem. I love how you humanize the seasons, give them personal characteristics. It makes them seem so real. Your poem is very well-written, interesting start to finish. Good luck with your contest.

This is lovely! The rhythm and rhyme just flowed so flawlessly. And I could picture September standing her ground and not leaving. The imagery highlighted by the artwork of faded sunflowers is perfect. When it's over, it's over. There is no fat lady waiting to sing!

A very well-written Amphibrach meter ~ Rhyming poem about summer that holds on and not willing to enter Autumn but eventually it will have to stand back so that nature can complete its seasonal cycle.

This is an excellent poem in the amphibrach meter! You did an excellent job in maintaining the meter all the way through the poem. Your poem and the poetic language you use is really excellent. I wish I still had six stars left.

This is a difficult metre to write in and one I intend to look at in the class. The effectiveness of its flow depends more than most on matching the natural stress to the metrical stress like any metrical writing but it is a little more difficult.
September is an excellent example of what one might call an amphibrachic word. Sunflowers is not, at least not in my pronunciation.
September = x / x = amphibrach
Sunflowers = / x x = dactyl
Deluges = / x x = dactyl
As far as I can see those two dactylic examples are what is 'throwiing' the rhythm somewhat. The rest seems perfectly sound.
Hope this helps.
Please keep a copy of the original for use in class.

Your poem is excellent in all respects--skillfully-written, vividly descriptive, and lovely. Personification is effectively and enthusiastically used to describe seasons not wanting to give up control.

Amphibrach is something I have to look up, Melissa. :) but I do like what I read. Your poem has a good marching beat and of course you know your way around words. Woman you do know how to write poetry. This is a good entry for the Rhyming Poem contest.

I can't believe we're almost into October already. I feel we were robbed of summer because of the virus. The country has seen a lot of hurricanes this season. I don't envy people living in those states. We have quite a few leaves blowing about, so fall is definitely coming. I like your description of September having a "rebellious façade." It doesn't want to yield to October. I hope we'll see some spectacular fall colors this year. We deserve it. Excellent rhyming poem, and best of luck in the contest. It reads very gracefully, with lovely word choices. judi

You're welcome. We are getting cooler days. There is not going to be a Covered Bridge festival this year, but I figure my husband and I can drive around and see the foliage and covered bridges anyway. judi
