Those who don't think of writing poetry as a craft should read your delightful poem. In just eight syllables, you have given us the status we deserve. :-)

Yay! Poets definitely deserve a higher status in life. I always appreciate your encouraging reviews.
Comment from Margaret Bednar
Very basic handtools but oh, so necessary - and the funny thing is how swiftly the "disappear"! A easy poem to meet the rules, but not so easy to be clever. I like this one because it is such a basic tool ... and yet can seriously document our most intricate insights.

That?s a nice review, Margaret. Those 8 syllable ?poems? can be tough.

Love this whimsical tribute to the pencil... and, tangentially, tot he art of poetry. Word art requires tools and insights! Great satori like closing. Fantastic word economy too. Bravo. This should prove a strong contender.

Thank you for seeing worth in my few words. The shorter the poem, the greater the challenge for me. I always looks forward to your reviews because you appreciate what I am trying to do.

Thank you, Dolly. I've been thinking about doing an ode to my pencil, but this shorter form seemed more to the point.
Comment from Sandra du Plessis
A very well-written 2-4-2 poem about the pencils that are perfectly made for the use they are intended for. Writing with a perfect pencil is as good as we can get.

I agree, Sandra. Yesterday, I pulled out my electric pencil sharpener and sharpened every pencil I could find. Now I'm ready when (if) the thoughts come.
Comment from Gloria ....
Oh this is most clever Debbie. Of course the title of these short poems is a most important part of the entire write, and this is pencils to a T.
I used to use pencils a lot because I love the feel of them.
I'd say this is the winner, and I hope I am proved right.
Best of luck to you with the Contest Committee. :)

Yesterday, I sharpened dozens of pencils that I have worn to nubs from my daily crosswords. I couldn't help but think of your poem, Pencils in a Jar. So, I reread it and decided to do a pencils poem of my own. You were definitely my inspiration, so I'm so glad that you like it.

Debbie, This is a very neat and well written 2-4-2 poem you have penned for the contest that is very true. I miss writing with sharp pencils and good erasers. Best wishes in the contest. love and blessings, Teri

Thank you, Teri. I do it everyday.
Comment from June Sargent
I wholeheartedly agree! Nothing like handwriting to get the real feel of creating. Thoughts become real on paper. They come to life. Great entry for the contest.

Hah! Debbie!
Creative 2/4/2 poetic offering! My husband is nearly completed with converting our staircase from carpet to hardwood. I have no idea what he would have done without his Craftsman precision tools as nothing, and I mean, nothing was level, and everything was wonky!
Oh...and I love to use pencils over pens any day!
Best Wishes!

This is remarkable. My husband just finished converting our whole house from carpet to hardwood. Who can do that? Both of our husbands obviously. Another striking similarity in our lives.
Thank you for your kind review. I almost forgot about the review because I was so struck with the hardwood.

Good Morning, Debbie!
Are you sitting down?
Lar also "just finished converting our whole house from carpet to hardwood!" Hickory hardwood! What an adventure that was, but the effect is lovely!
Take Care!

This is too much for me, Diane. We must meet someday. All four of us are soulmates. Even our children seem very compatible. Mine are 36, 32, and 26.
-
That would be wonderful, Debbie!
Our Rachel will be 36 in August, and Morgan will be 32 in August!
Rachel and Patrick arrived here about two hours ago! This is the first time we have been together in nine weeks!
Rachel's "bump" = "Bowdie" and he has definitely grown bigger than when we last "felt" him! :)
Take Care!

Debbie,
You created a very sharp idea with this 2-4-2 entry. Combining hands, tools, and cutting are perfectly matched. It also recalls (for me) when all elementary schools had a pencil sharpener in the classroom that was NOT electric. The trick for the teacher then would be to inspire the children to create insightful works in writing their compositions (or poems!). I still have some of those Craftsman tools, which are now rarely used anymore. LOL

Thank you, Mark, for this fine rating. I'm glad that you liked my little poem. It's neat to think of pencils as a hand tool. You know me and my word plays. I really appreciate your encouragement.
