I really enjoyed your story for the essay on writing contest. That's how it goes and that's how those milestones hit us. Like I remember the first time someone asked me, 'what I do" and I answered, "I'm an author." And believed it :) well done. Good luck in the contest.

Well said. Gives us all cause for hope. I like that you refers to us as co-workers. I am thrilled to be here in Story Land--my writing dreams are continually fulfilled by just having my work read. "Real" publication would be nice, but I will happily trade it for all I've found here. Cheers. LIZ

Hi Liz, Keep believing and keep the hope. It can come true! The first published piece I got paid for was a short true story writing contest with Writer's Digest. I remember how excited I was to be able to say I was finally published. I think they paid me $200 for it. It kept me encouraged, and now I have four books published and have written for many publications. Keep writing and believing. I'm very excited about "Love Long Distance," co-authored with Bill Bishop, being finished and then published within the next few months. HURRAH! Wishing you all the best. Take care and have a great weekend. Cheers!
Blessings,
Cathy

Good for you! They say positive thoughts create our reality, so I believe it right along with you.
I found no errors in this piece and it was entertaining to read. Like you, I work at another job to support my writing, and one day soon, I will be writing for a living and supporting myself very well.
All the very best with that book!

Hi Janilou, I'm glad you enjoyed my true story. Let me tell you, especially nowadays, it is possible to make enough money by writing. Book royalties won't do it at first, but there are many other ways to get paid for writing. I've ghostwritten books and now own my own publishing company. Quit my full-time job last October. HURRAH! Keep believing and keep writing. Wishing you all the best. Take care and have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Cathy

The video is certainly encouraging although I wonder if the author's did some revision between all the rejections.
milestone--I've gone from hoping something could happen to really believing it can.
This is so important. Visualize your book cover in stores. Act as if it's already happened. That's my dream too.

Hi Spitfire. Great comments here. Yes, I'm sure they did many revisions. My first book took me seven years to write and there were pages and pages of edits with my publisher. That, also, is part of the process. My books are in stores--what a feeling it was, and still is, to see them there! My fifth book will be coming out in the next few months. It is co-authored with Bill Bishop (Commando) and is titled, "Love Long Distance." HURRAH! If you haven't checked it out yet, we encourage you to do so. Keep believing in your dream and keep writing. If you do, it may take a while, but it will come true! Wishing you all the best. Take care and have a great weekend.
Blessings,
Cathy

What a PERFECT little story! I love your use of senses--sight, smell, sound, for example. I felt like I was there...I could SEE that group, SMELL the varied lunches being heated up, and HEAR the groups' voices. And, of course, I really appreciated the positive attitude of you, the writer. In the words of the Mary Tyler Moore theme song, "You're gonna make it after all." OUTSTANDING work!

You're absolutely right. It's not beyond reach if you believe that it's possible. I love to read and write. I want to write a few books one day myself. Thanks for sharing this inspirational and well written work. Well done!

HURRAH! Glad you found my writing inspiration and well written. Wishing you a great weekend. Keep writing and reading.

So true! I agree that nothing is impossible. The main point is that we write from our heart which will be better writing and to write constantly. Not easy when family ties are demanding. Thank you for sharing

Hi Drew, Yes, we write from our heart! If we do, our words shine through. It isn't easy to find the time with other obligations, but even just a little time each day goes a long way. Wishing you all the best. Keep writing.
Blessings,
Cathy
