The images in this contemplative poem is what drove it, in my opinion. You had those great images of the blooming marigolds, lilly of the valley, and delphinium, in these vibrant colors; the glimpses of photographs in the old albums; the sublime Michigan sunsets; the candlelight in the snow, the monarch butterfly. These are all terrific images of life, treasured moments that seem to live on, images of peace, of transformation and transcendence. It is a poem of hope as much as it is a poem of remembrance. A poem of keeping alive your mother, in you day to day life. estory

I lost my mother early, too. She didn't see me graduate high school, meet my husband, hear about my years of teaching, hold my beautiful babies or watch me grow old. I never got her advice for things I couldn't figure out on my own or let her listen to a poem or song I've written.
But she is part of me every single day. She is in my children's smiles and laughter. I watch one of my girls and think 'that's my mom! Right there in Meagan!'
I felt your poem as much as I read it.
