Thank you. It's sad to see towns go down, but it makes for some exploring of abandoned houses.

Yvonne,
Your picture and well-thought out words describe this once thriving town that has been reduced to a ghost town. Your descriptive words make readers feel like they are touring this ghost town. I like the formatting of your words, the font, the perfect picture, and the message.. Even after the towns 'disappears,' the ghosts of those in the cemetery remain. I like how you gave specific words their own line for emphasis, your scattered alliteration, and your descriptive phrasing like chalk on slates. Thanks for sharing a great poem for the challenge. Respectfully, Jan

My husband and I have traveled extensively within our state and have come across many places like this. They all feel almost haunted by the voices of those who lived there. Great job capturing that feeling. Thank you for sharing your work.

A town not too far from here has those types of buildings. I remember when the town was thriving with the train, garage, couple of stores, a school. And now barely anything there. I loved your poem. The imagery is very good!
Nice work.

We saw a lot of that in the west when we went hunting. Ghost towns are very interesting,Yvonne. The picture shows just how things fall to ruin without the human touch. Well done. Nancy:)

Isn't this what poetry does best -takes us to the scene allowing us to experience afresh the sights and sounds of that moment in time- simply superb - such exquisite language

This free verse is so true. Parts of the past are honored yet today. A reminder that today, families need to be loved and cherished, for they are still here.

I found this interesting because ghost towns generally generally speaking unknown in UK, as we simply don't have the space. When the raison d'être for a town ceases to exist here. The town is recycled and given another reason to exist. This has happened a lot where I live in South Wales, once a mining area now reborn as a dormitory for the larger towns alike Cardiff, Swansea and Newport. Some of the old buildings remain boarded up but most become recycled as small business premises. The mining machinery has gone for scrap apart from a few pits preserved as museums.
The cemetaries of course also remain as they are still in use.

I think that's better than letting the town died. We have a lot of them here. Of course, they make interesting adventures. Thanks, Jim.

Hello Damommy,
I pray you are doing well these days. This is a beautiful free verse story of a ghost town and all that is left of it. The photo depicts a portion of a run-down town/home of long ago, with nothing left but its dilapidated cemetery. You wrote a story of what used to be of a flourishing town. I love the sentence speaking of the gardens gone that use to feed families lie fallow, unseeded and untended. (Great line). This is a lovely story of a deserted ghost town that once was a lively place. Thanks for sharing the memories of a place where your father was born. Good job, Damommy! Take care and stay safe. Happy writing:-)

A very well-written free verse poem about lively towns that become ghost towns when everyone leaves town and never return and start new lives elsewhere, only the memories remain.
