LisaMay,
This poem is a very straightforward and excellent tribute to those brave people on the front lines. I don't know why (inexperience in this type of things? ) it never occurred to me the staff may be the dying patients' last comfort. Over an over. That's so sad and admirable. I've watched nurses on tv who were stunned and traumatized, trying to tell how horrible it is to watch hundreds of people die in one day. But maybe the staff can find comfort in knowing their words to the dying are of paramount importance. I'm sorry to rant on, but I love your thought-provoking poem. Excellent work. Good luck in the contest. Best wishes, Cindy

They must suffer too, losing patient after patient and none of them have family there to say goodbye. I can see a lot of post-traumatic stress disorder surfacing sometime in the future.

Thanks for this tribute to our medical community. I don't know if I could put my face in the face of a coronavirus patient. Thank goodness for these brave, selfless souls. They are the key to our present and future well being.
My only comment for change is that in "gratefully we applaud," I count six syllables. Otherwise I would not change a thing.

Your words of support for the medical staff are appreciated. Apart from their massive work load at the moment, the commitment they offer to their patients is an indication of their professional ethics. Well written.

Heroes of different kind from those celebrated in your previous post, but heroes none the lest. The 'killing fields' here may not sprout poppies but they are potentially just as deadly as those of Flandders and Gallipoli.

Every shift begun by these hospital workers means not just hard, unrelenting work but exposure o a virus every bit as deadly as Tutkish bullets.

You pegged it! You should send copies of this to the hospitals in your area. I just read that licensed medical professionals will get a $10 per hour hazardous duty bonus; other hospital employees will get $5 per hour. Cheers. LIZ

Very nice share with five stanzas in that 5-7-5 format. I think the call for applause is very appropriate. Most of us can just pray if we are not in that medical field. Nice share indeed.

Great job capturing what is going on and how our front line workers are doing such an amazing and hard job! I think everything flowed super well together. Thank you for sharing your poem.

Yes, we are thankful for all our healthcare workers! I guess I should put them all on our regular prayer lists. Great job with your tribute to them in your suite of 5-7-5 poems!
