Sandra, great job with using your creativity expressed in a very loving and patient way toward your grandson. That is a great example of accepting a kid as he is and working with them to encourage them. As far as the last part, I think I would delete it since people are already freaked out about the virus.

Thank you so much for the lovely review, Bill. I'm not putting that part in the finished book, as you say everyone has really had enough of this virus, and knowing it's responsible for lots of other diseases won't help. Thank you for telling me your thoughts on the matter, I really appreciated it. Have a lovely day, my friend, and stay safe. :) Sandra xx

A noble enterprise, Sandra. I don't know how old Eric is, but would he know the meaning of sonar and scarper? Reading the rest of the verse I discovered interesting facts. Same with the rest of the post. They may do good, but are they ever creepy to look at.
Vampire bats seem to operate like mosquitoes. I didn't know about the eyesight or the wingspan.
Very informative.

Hi Spitfire, Eric has just turned 12 years old. Although he's dyslexic, he has an amazing quick brain for algorithms. 'Scarper' is a very common word, and children are always being told to scarper when they shouldn't be doing something, or, they'll use the word if they knew there would be trouble ahead. Sonar, I'll double check on, but I'm almost sure he does. Thank you for mentioning that, I do want to get it right for others too. And thank you for reading letter B, it's had some interesting reviews! Lol. Have a lovely day. :)) Sandra x

I like this. You've given me some education on bats. I didn't know that they help other bats out when they're hungry. We could learn something from them. I also didn't know that they could see that well if at all. Thanks for sharing this informative and well written work. Well done!

I didn't know until I started researching them. I hope the children will see bats in a different way when they read it. I'm really pleased you enjoyed reading it, Jeffrey, thanks so much for the nice review. Big hug, my friend. :) Sandra xx

-Another great piece of art by Graham!
-I hope those go in the book!
-I learned a lot about bats.
-I have never liked them, but I
know they are good for ridding
us of mosquitoes.
-The myth I grew up with was
that they get in your hair.
-That was creepy and I still don't
like being out when they are.
-You did a good job with the
poem and facts about them.
-I have mixed feelings about the
virus part in a children's book.
-Because it is going on now, we
are focused on it, but for younger
children, I think the virus part
would be very scary; I would
err on the side of caution and
leave it out.
-Like many things, I think it is
the parents job to explain things
to children. Maybe you could
modify it with something more
general, like it's not a good idea
to get close to bats, or try to
catch one, etc.

Bats won't go anywhere near hair, I think that came from horror stories. Bats are in most of them! I'm glad you came to read about them, I've been amazed at some of the things I've learnt. I am going to modify that part, but I'll leave it in while it's on FS because I think it's something we should be aware of. What you have put at the end is roughly what I had in mind. Children, especially boys, do tend to like catching horrid things, mice, worms, frogs, to put in their sister's bed! I know these things!!! LOL. Thank you so much for another lovely, detailed review, my friend. I really apprecaited your comments. Sending you a hug! Sandra xxxx

You are very welcome, Sandra, and I appreciate your reply. I guess we are a pretty tame family. It comes from myself and son being only children!

Yes! Add it.... and WITHOUT the note to adults: many of your curious youngsters (all of my boys, for example) will 'eat up' that kind of pertinent information. If you wanted to to include it as 'extra' or something, you could make a new section (you don't have to use it for every animal, just on ones that have this kind of cool/advanced info) called something like: 'Bats and the World' or 'Bats as Members of the World Community' or 'Bat's World Community Membership'..... but just a section that allows you to address an animal's impact on the greater community and not just facts about that animal restricted to it... ???? Like I said, my boys would have loved that section!! :) Thanx for sharing, my lady!! ;) Yvette

Thank you so much for that, Yvette. I'm glad you read it, and you being a teacher as well, makes it an easier decision to make. I know boys like that type of thing, having two brothers and two sons, lol. What you said makes perfect sense, we do need to let them know everything about any animal. It's lovely to know you are feeling so much better, thanks for the lovely review! Big hugs, my friend. Sandra xxx

This is a wonderful and moving piece of writing, especially knowing the backstory. Best of luck in your alphabet series and to Eric! This would read beautifully in a children's book. Well done and thanks for sharing!

My work Lanugo is also available through the 100 word dash listing. Still looking to make a few tweaks and would love your advice!

I think that they're a protected animal here too... for the most part. I mean, I don't think that if I had killed a bat in my house, I'd have gone to prison, but I expect it's illegal to build a bat box with the intention of harming bats. Without bats we'd be swimming in mosquitos!!! EEEEK!!

Thank you, Susan, for reading about the bats, lol, I've had such a mixed response! I don't like them, but I've learned through researching for this book, that they are needed. And, like you, I don't fancy having loads of mosquitoes eating me!! C will be coming next Wednesday, they are a little nicer. LOL. Stay safe, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Hello Sandra. Bats are not my favorites. Unfortunately, they carry coronavirus. They are immune to the virus as I understand. I would describe them as unusual creatures. They are unique in many ways.

There are many who don't like bats, I'm in that group, but we need them or the world would belong to the insects. I've found out so many interesting facts about them. Did you know there is an International Bat Week in October 24th - 31st, to honour them! I didn't! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts on bats, Robert, I appreciate it a lot. Back on nice ground next Wednesday. Crabs.... You will be surprised what I've learned about them! lol. Have a nice day, my friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Hi Sandra. I've been away from FS for some time and am trying to get back into it again.

If I keep reading your work it will certainly help me get my mojo back again.

I love where you're going with this and of course why you're doing it. I have 5 grandchildren and there is nothing in the world like them.

Keep writing and I'll keep reading . John

Hello John, how lovely to see you back! What a lovely review, too. Our grandchildren are precious, we can't help but do what we can to help them. I'm really pleased you will be coming along with my ABC book. I'll be looking out for yours. Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

I didn't know bats would share. That's interesting. You must have done a lot of research. Love the pictures of the bat and the bat signal. I'd leave out the last bit and stick to fun interesting facts about the bats. Some animals do carry disease, but I don't think that's what this is about. Keep it positive for the young kids.

I learnt a lot while researching for bats, they have their good points and bad. Without them we would be in trouble. So, we all have to put up with them! lol. Another thing I didn't know, from October 24th it's International Bat Week!! There you go! LOL. Thanks Cindy for reading and for your thoughts on that last part. I will leave it out. I've had mixed replies, but I think if, as you say, I stick with the positive, it would work better. Thanks, my friend. C will be up next Wednesday. Stay safe and have a lovely day. :)) Sandra xx
