Oh this is such a tragedy! I have always loved Koala bears and cute little pandas as well! They both seem to be the cutest cuddly bears on earth to me...these bushfires have not been kind to any species living in Australia! Pray tell...how much did it effect the kangaroos?

Aaqib, The overall effect on all wildlife was devastating. Kangaroos breed more easily than Koalas. Thank you for reading. Blessings, Kay.

How can I not reward this with a six? It is so sad and touching--and heartwarming as well knowing that so many dedicated people are out there helping the surviving Koalas. xoxo

Hello Mrs Spangle, Thanks so much for reading and appreciating the devastation to our wildlife, also millions of acres of land and over 1.000 homes lost. Love, Kay.

What a heartbreaking story, though told well, in verse, Aussie. Your lines flow smoothly with good use of alliteration and a great internal rhyme of raw/paw. Your picture is so sweet--too bad for its reason. I pray the little bears will be able to make a comeback. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

Hi there Jan, Thanks so much for reading. Many Kangaroos died but they are prolific breeders, not so Koalas. The babies are being hand fed on bottle formula. Dreadful pain from burns. Love, Kay.

Hi Kace, I would watch the fires on tv...and cry....I watch while some people went in and saved the precious Koalas...I saw where some place had set up something like a hospital for them...but my prayers are with those who passed...and those that are still trying to survive...I love your poem...but it broke me heart...sometimes Kace I don't understand why things like this happen...they are Gods precious creators...very well written my wonderful sweet friend...and the picture says it all...much love to ya...Linda xxoo

G'day mate, Nature can give and take away. This is life, very hard and harrowing. We cull the kangaroos for meat, but the icon of our country is the beloved koala. We still weep for the orphans being bottle-fed. Much love, Kace XX

Hello Kace, you have expressed yourself well in support of the poor animals lost in the fires. Those poor koalas. Peaceful little animals burnt to death and the trauma of the remaining ones - the situation is apocalyptic - what is happening to our earth? You always write a good poem about your motherland - this is yet one more. Well done dear girl - love Dorothy xx

Such a sad loss of a national treasure! I am grateful to all the hard workers who have rescued many of these precious bears. You all down under are still in our thoughts and prayers.

Comment from Mary Kay Bonfante
This is such a special, precious poem for your beautiful Koala bears in Australia. So many taken by fire, so many left orphaned, burnt, bereaved -- what an amazing ode to this marvelous creature that all the world knows, the world over, has Australia as his home.
My one suggestion:
No where to hide,
-->
Nowhere to hide,
You did such a wonderful, compassionate job with this, Kay, it had my eyes tearing up. Yes, God bless the Animal Rescue Units and the civilians who took the orphaned and injured Koalas into their homes.
