I'm so sorry for your loss. The poem itself is beautiful. You wrote with emotion and love and that shines through the whole poem! Your rhyme and rhythm is fine because that's the way your heart wrote it. A wonderful tribute to your brother. God bless you and your mom!

This poem touched me deeply. I was very moved reading about your brother and his music. Your words sincerely convey your love for him and tells how much you miss having him in your life. It is more than a poem, it is a love story. Thank you for sharing.

Mary, it doesn't matter if the rhyming and meter are a little off. You created a beautiful tribute to your brother. I lost my sister 4 years ago.
I think of her every day.

O, my heart aces for you. I read your still raw emotion in the lines you penned, here. It is so difficult when someone so young dies. I lost my son in 2005 at the age of 32. You are in my thoughts and prayers, my friend. Hugs.

I am so very sorry, Marcia! To lose a son at so young an age is hard to imagine. I didn't have any children, but I wish we had -- getting married so late in life made it nearly impossible. And my Mom lost her only son, when we lost John. So I have seen what that does to a mother.
I wrote the poem when my grief was very raw indeed, but it has been 15 years now. I still miss him and wish to have him back in our lives, but have come to a stage of acceptance. I am convinced that our minds literally form new pathways, to bring a significant relationship from the present, to the past, understanding that further communication is no longer an option. I have lovingly dusted off our memories and arranged them neatly on the shelves of my mind. Well not quite so neatly -- new ones come along once in awhile, which for me is delightful. I'm rambling on now... I love him so much and still miss him, and I know you miss your boy. Thank you for your understanding. God bless you!

Thank you so much, Sandra. Your review is so sensitive and lovely. Yes, he's the kind of brother most of us would want to have as part of our lives! He could be challenging to deal with sometimes, but I wouldn't hesitate one second if I could have him back, problems and all. Sometimes I think God knew he had struggled enough with the problems he faced, and that he was just tired. He didn't fail, but his body did. I think God just said, "That's enough, kid, you're coming Home." The rest of us just had to pick up the pieces, and it wasn't easy. But he left me with indelible memories I will treasure forever. I appreciate what you wrote, may God bless you. - Mary Kay

I know people are always saying the meter is off or the rhymes are forced, and I usually follow this for certain pieces, but when one creates with feeling, the rules go out the door and that is perfectly okay to create a wonderful tribute you have done

Hello Mary Kay, this poem is so sad and I feel your sadness in your words. It is unbearable when a loved one dies before their time. Your poem is well written and tells John's story. The final touch that moved me very much was the thoughtful way you repeat the last line - a sure way to tug at the heartstrings. I lost my brother last April so your poem resonates with me. I never thought I could take anything as badly as I did - but like you and John, my brother and I were close. A beautifully written poem to your brother. Warm regards Dorothy xx

What a resemblance. He has your sweet smile and countenance. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I know just how you feel. A loss of a sibling is hard and life seems to take on a new dynamic. I'm glad I got to say goodbye to my brother and two stepbrothers.
Your brother left you many good memories and a musical legacy. Thank you for sharing John with all of us today. Sending you my best today as always,
Sally xoxo

Thank you for your sweet and thoughtful review, and also for your expression of sympathy, empathy and compassion. Yes, it was hard not to be able to say goodbye to John. I appreciate all the wonderful things you said about him -- including our resemblance! If I post another poem about him at some point, I may include a photo from our childhood -- we were very cute together. God bless you, Sally. xoxo - Mary Kay
