What an image. A skull surrounded by flowers. A little creepy but it serves your poem well. It's nice to recall fond memories of your departed friends. Your poem is well-written, interesting. Your great word choice gets your message across nicely.

I'm not sure whether the thoughts of that old acquaintance were good or bad. Judging from the artwork, they were bad. At time of life, many of my old acquaintances are dead, but they are remembered. This would make a backstory for some connection that can't be forgotten. judi

We have a love-hate relationship with the past.

Some people whitewash the past. Others seem to remember only the bad. judi

Hello ...well... I'm not sure which came first... the artwork OR the 5-7-5 poem ... not that it matters...is it blooming forget-me-nots? OR more sin-ister greenery? - Lobber

Thank you, Lobber, for giving this a look. The feeling of auld lang syne, items long since past, conjured up this sense of morbidity. Then I looked for an apt skull image. Happy New Year.

I like your allusion to the "Auld Lang Syne" song ("old acquaintance ...be forgot") - and I especially liked that the memories of that person was "blooming" in the poet's mind.

This is a great 575 that is appropriate for the upcoming holiday. I like how you tied your own thoughts of lost acquaintances to the theme of Auld Lang Syne.

I do like your 5-7-5 poem Bill, I'm thinking re the artwork it's someone no longer with us that is in your thoughts this day. I find if it's a friend far away but still with us, someone's telling me to contact them. So few words, create many thoughts for the reader,
thankyou.
