What a charming childhood memory you shared, and I love the added spice of the off-colored words. Did you ever hear that expression? What I learned from my father was the art of understatment. He didn't like vulgarity. On the other hand, my mother's favorite word was 'shit.' Go figure, LOL. Hugs, Lou

This meets the contest requirements splendidly as you deliver a complete and thoroughly engaging slice of your life. I enjoyed this very much. It was written with palpable love, sincerity, and respect which reels the reader into it emotionally much like a trout on a string line. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

I really enjoyed this tribute to your father, Lisa. It is obvious--as you narrate your story--he was a patient, loving man capable of teaching you practical things while also imparting life lessons. Your strong feelings for him really come through. Rod

I love the way you weave your story in and out of loving reminiscing. You always do a wonderful job with your tales. This one is extra rich because you are sharing yourself and your wonderful father. Very well written, Lisa!!

Wonderful story, Lisa. Seems your dad had a lasting, positive influence on you that has lasted your entire life. You were very fortunate to have him as your father and life guide at such an early age. You've written a terrific, upbeat story about essentially being poor as a child, but you never really noticed because you had a loving home. :)

This is an endearing write about your experiences with your father Lisa and an insight into your childhood. My Mother also made our clothes and I learned how to use a sewing machine and indeed made clothes for my own children. The only thing we grew in our garden was a blackberry bush and I yearned to grow tomatoes and Lettuce, but my parents were not interested in gardening. I liked that your Dad's workshop was a happy place, my father loved to tinker with things in the garage but we were never allowed in as it was full of dangerous electric things going off all the time! He made furniture and all sorts of ingenious inventions which we sometimes laughed at! Happy memories here Lisa, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
