Thanx so much, C-R, for stopping by on this one -- our Veterans' Day Parade was today and to see those older vets interacting with the kids/youth along the parade route was just a reminder where this inspiration came from! ;) Love to shake their hands and clap and watch them react: they deserve every smile we can give them and so much more! ;) :) Yvette

This is beautiful! I like how you used the old veteran talking to the youngsters of today. His time was one of great patriotism. I don't think we'll ever a time like that again. I enjoyed reading this very much.

We were at some event, I can't remember what, I think a circus, and when the color guard came out, we were the only ones to stand. Big mouth me said, "Stand up, people. This is your country's flag." Everyone stood and no one fussed at me. I'm a flag freak.

Thank you for your timely prayer for Veteran's Day. I admired your speaking in the voice of an old veteran along with your use of rhythm and rhyme. Here's to freedom- Joan

Yvette,
Truly this is an inspiring poem.
In the 1950s, my family and I would sit on the curb in front of my father's store and watch the Memorial Day parade (I don't recall Veterans Day parades then). I recall how proud I was wave to my father's friends who marched ever year in their WW2 uniforms. The waves back to me were special. And afterwards, we celebrated with a Memorial Day picnic with friends and likely had strawberry shortcake for dessert!

Thank you, thank you, Mark for your wonderful review and those bright, shiny stars -- just got in from our Veterans' Day parade and remembered why my muse must have whispered this idea to me: those vets are just so damn happy that folks are there... you can just see it on their faces not matter how young or old! You reach to shake their hand and just say a simple 'Thank you' and their hand squeezes tighter and their eyes brighten up... EVERYONE should be sure to do that, ya know? :) :) Take care out there! ;) :) Yvette

This meets the Club Challenge splendidly as you deliver a well penned poem which expresses the essence of the artwork beautifully. I liked the way you address this in prayer form asking for the best of the legacy to flourish while the worse is learned from and left behind. Well done and thank you very much for sharing it.

Very nice memorial tribute, Yvette, to those who have fought and sacrificed in order to provide freedom and opportunities to those they love and, often times, leave behind. As the ripples caused by a pebble cast into a pond, so are the actions of those we often never even know.

From an old soldier to a young person. Yes, last night I watched a long documentary on the Vietnam war - and could have cried many times. It was a non-winnable war - and we lost so many young lives. heart-breaking. If you come as a vet - thank you. MY husband served 6 years in army - but got out just as Vietnam was starting. Thank the Lord.
Good poem

My hubby never actually thought he should have vet status cuz he wasn't in the fighting - but the thing is - they were ready - many times they were told to pack their things and get ready. so he did serve and was at the ready.

Oh wow I truly love the idea of his saying this to warn us of repeat actions. Very well done and the use of the rhyming pattern and the minute like form, the message was very well conveyed

A fine Veteran's Day tribute, Yvette. You made it personal which magnifies the impact of your message. The greatest advocates for peace are soldiers for they know first hand the horrors of conflict.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. God bless all who serve and have served.

It's hard for the youngsters to understand the implications of war and the sacrifices made by our young soldiers. Your poem is a great tribute to all soldiers who sacrificed their lives and those who survived such tragedy, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
