Great short story. The end was a surprise, I didn't expect Cedric to actually disappear, he wasn't exactly an endearing child but the punishment was harsh. For such a short piece you manage to include great descriptive and emotive content which sets the scene really well. Good luck in the contest.

No, he wasn't my idea of a little angel, but I think you're right, he probably didn't deserve to never be. Although, I doubt he minds. Thanks for the fun comments and the good wishes :) Craig

I think you have the winner here, Craig. Poor Clara, poor Cedric. Cedric appears to be an ungrateful child, not particularly loving, but he doesn't deserve to disappear. This Halloween story is creepy, and it has a message. It should be read to every elementary school child to teach them not to be so whiny, to appreciate what they have.
I hope you win. This is good.

I thought this was nicely imagined, crafted and executed. It was short and crisp, and the details in the descriptions of the spooky Halloween carnival with the fortune teller's stand chanting the boy's wish into reality really makes the scene come alive. I liked how that simple wish translates into an ill thought out disappearance of Halloween altogether, along with the boy, whose birthday is wiped out with it. Only the mask left on the ground. Nice take on this well trodden theme. estory

Careful what you wish for indeed! Didn't see the end before I got there--very well written! This will do well in the contest--Madame Zelda told me that.

Oh dear, I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to disappear afterwards. Thanks for the kind remarks :) Cheers, Craig

Excellent little piece here with a nice message for the moany brats! lol

Simply told, it's taut and doesn't outstay its welcome. I hope this one does well.

Yikes! Be careful what you wish for indeed! Most kids would have been happy to see all the Halloween pranksters, but no, our little Cedric (brat that he was) wished himself out of existence.

Great, spooky story for this contest, Craig! Good luck!

Very much my pleasure -- just the kind of horror that's to my taste. :) And so well done!

This horror story, Be Careful What You Wish For, is a cool one as I am coming to the understanding that Cedric wished away his own birthday. Wow!

I'm right with Cedric in wishing there was no such thing as Halloween, but then I didn't have the misfortune to be born on 31 Oct. Maybe I could stand it better if the leap year date was moved from 29 Feb, and we only had to endure these shenanigans once every four years.

Sorry Tony, can't agree with you on this one. Halloween is my favourite holiday. The world is a scary place most of the time. Surely one day we can celebrate the scariness with a bit of levity is permissible? Anyway, I do appreciate the comments, as always :) Cheers, Craig

Oh my word, Craig so he got his wish, and then he ceased to exist. Not even his mother was aware of the fact because the dad had never existed in the first place.
This is a heck of a flash and with a surprise ending, if I've ever seen one. Good luck in the contest. Ulla:))

I don't recall ever having that wish for myself, but I imagine it could be handy under the right circumstances. Thanks for the great comments and the good wishes. Craig
