Hello Tootie. You've left us hanging before but you will get it straightened out. When I served in the late 60's our counterinsurgency training for VN was at Ft. Polk, LA. I'm still reading. Robert

It is impossible to fall asleep reading these selections. With this line: I wish I had some mint leaves with me,
I immediately thought of the spearmint and catnip plants growing in the backyard. The black cherry picking also reminded me of a summer harvest not long past. It sounds like life picked up in velocity a huge leap with the appearance of quicksand and an alligator, it seems. With this line:
Damn, they're all still green!" I muttered
I think you wanted another quotation mark in front of the word "Damn in the first part. Bill/Billy is going to get a miracle, I hope.

you already know how much I like your story. I sure hope Commando gets away from the alligator. A vicious animal indeed! And the unexpected stomach up chucking...I'll find out in the next chapter for your answer.

You always leave us hanging in the direst of circumstances! This part was really excellent writing, you both compliment each other so well. Now all we have to worry about is the alligator! I was surprised at those lads running off the way they did, even though Bill told them too. You don't do that! You make sure you're all there when you leave. They've a lot to learn still!! Well done, another excellent part. Well done! :)) Sandra xx

I enjoyed this chapter very much. The story is moving along nicely and the language seems authentic. I hope you don't leave us waiting too long to find out what happens to Bill. I didn't find anything to suggest that would improve it.

Since this appears to be a romance, that extends the likelihood of a happily-ever-after. But scary times getting there.
Comment from Jannypan (Jan)
Each chapter in this novel is better than the last one, Cathy and Bill. But together, they build a cohesive story that is filled with danger, love of family, intrigue, and great imagery. It is evident that much research has gone into this collaborative effort.
I enjoy the synopsis at the start of each chapter that serves to refresh my mind of the story thus far. The inclusion of the videos strengthens and grounds the time of this novel. They are great reminders of the state of society in many areas--music, natural surroundings, and the political focus. Johnny Cash was an awesome performer who set the standard with his style. The two videos detailing the Smoky Mountain sights/sounds are great for those who have not travelled to that area today OR did not know of the awesomeness of the area in 1964. Having Bill recall his training. and soon departure, for VietNam intensifies the political issue of that confrontation and sets the stage for more action from the war front.
The inclusion of Grandma and Grandpa keeps the 'down home' style evident that was so influential in Bill's early life. It allows Cathy to see how family was everything to Bill and still is! I love the inclusion of "Gandpaisms." Of course Grandma is never far behind with her wisdom--even if it is with a swift 'whoop' with her broom.
The parts Bill shared with Cathy were informative as to what he was preparing for and about to be involved in. The dialogue with his Commander showed the respect and camaraderie of the team members with each other. It sounded natural and added to the 'flavor' of the situation.
The phone call conversation with Cathy was heart tugging and heartfelt. Readers can feel the emotion, the longing, and the love each has for the other--particularly heart-wrenching were Bill's tears. He knows the upcoming danger, he knows how much he misses Cathy, and he knows things may not turn out a desired. That scene grabs readers like no other!
The cliff hangar did its job. It made me want to read the net chapter without delay! Thank you, Bill and Cathy, for another AWESOME chapter in this on-going novel.
Respectfully with Love, Laura Jan

This is an excellent chapter. It flowed smoothing, moved along at a fast pace. I am anxious to read the next chapter and find out if she is pregnant.... I hope he can come home to spend some time with her before he is deployed.
