What a moving verse that is supported admirably by your choice of artwork. I read your notes and saw this was autobiographical. Hugs to you, dear Sal!!!

So sad for the child when the parents are fighting. They think they have done. We try to let them know it's not them and that Daddy isn't mad at them.

Wow -- now there's a cathartic and at the same time heart-breaking one there, Lady Sal ... between the centered, single word formatting and the well-chosen words, this one has more impact than a longer poem or even story...GREAT job! ;) ;) Thanx so much for sharing that piece of your heart, my friend! ;) Yvette

Heartbreaking. The last line - "I hope whatever's in that bottle was worth it." is so poignant. Having just sent our youngest off to college, I am well aware that raising children is life's greatest blessing (and whatever is in second place is WAY behind the leader).

The metaphor of the door "shaking the entire apartment" is powerful also. My dad's dad walked out on his family when my dad was 11 - it shaped the rest of my dad's life. Alcoholism is an awful disease and I'm sorry it reared its ugly head in your life. Love your writing.

First, I just must say thank you. Not for the review just yet, we?ll get to that. It is a joy to hear from a man who gets it. My eyes missed hearing how loving and dedicated you are to your grown children and wife. It?s a breath of fresh air, Mark. People used to ask me why I stayed home and raised our sons. I would answer, ?Is there anything more important?? To me, our culture has lost sight of some important things and this is one of them. I still to this day do not understand his love for the bottle over us, over me, but I choose to forgive him. I have a loving husband who is a tremendous father and grandfather to our five grandchildren. He is a wonderful husband and has shared his dad with me, too.
Thank you for the wonderful review. It means so much coming from the person you are.

Hello Sally a happy Thursday to you. Thank you for sharing that personal poem with us. I know all too well what it is like to have a absentee parent. That's why I am the father I am today, I wanted to be that exact opposite.
Great job! got me a bit emotional.

Poignant. I'm not the one to tell you about form and structure, etc, I only know this reached out and touched my heart. This short piece spoke of huge sadness and loss. Thank you for sharing.

This is a poignant poem and the picture shows the feeling. I am sorry for your loss and the pain alcoholism brings all families that deal with it.
The resounding slam is felt through the description.
Keep writing
Joan

Sis, I was 8 when my Dad left us and it was the grog (alcohol) that got control of him. My only consolation was that I believe I grew more in the Lord without him around. Because of an opportunity I had with him prior to his passing in 2003, I do believe I will see him in Glory some day. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for the excellent review and personal feedback, Geoff. It is something that weighs heavily and without the Lord, I?m not sure how people handle it.
Sending you my best today as always. I hope you and dear Louise are well.
