Thank God not all girls are feminine- if they were we might not have feminists or lesbians - just bearded ladies and freaks at carnivals and side shows. Lobber

I get your point... we need all types of everybodies, girly men too.

Dear Mystery Poet,
I love it! I had two very tomboyish girls. Crazy over-to-top tomboys. So I get it. The other cool thing is that I considered entering this contest, too, so I am sooooo glad I saw this first! hahahahaha
Fab poem - and a definite contender - if not the first place winner. (I'm predicting a high place!) Go get 'em!!! Thanks and good luck!

Thanks for your positivity Robyn! Were your tomboys influenced by being surrounded by boys?

You know, I'm not really sure. My eldest daughter wasn't as bad. She just wasn't a 'girlie girl'. NEVER wanted to play with dolls or cooking stuff, etc. Always played sports, etc.
But my younger daughter LITERALLY kept her hair cut short like a boy when she was younger and WANTED people to think she was a boy. We'd go to a restaurant to eat and just say, 'he wants a ...' because if we said 'she wants a...' the waitress would get confused. Riley LOVED it.
Of course, now you should see her. GORGEOUS - if you don't mind me saying. haha About to get married to the guy of her dreams in May. It all changes. Thank heavens.

I think it's great we have so much more personal freedom these days to embrace our variations of what 'boy' and 'girl' is, such as in clothing and behaviour, but I must admit to being rather confused at the proliferation of gender this and that.

Yes, I wondered about romance with that pack of boys. . . how lovely that you accepted yourself. I once wrote a poem that said "love me as I am, or not at all." What a delightful childhood.

"love me as I am, or not at all" is the perfect motto. I hate how people try to change each other in relationships. Thanks for reviewing my poem... yes, I had a marvellous childhood - I've got the scars to prove it!

I really like the tomboy characterized in this poem. I never knew any like her when I was young. We get a vivid picture of how she acted and fit in with those seven boys. Love the short scene about her first rejection. And that final couplet really summarizes WHO she is. Rod

I'm glad you read this one Rod... maybe it's good you were spared meeting the likes of her when you were young - she would have terrorized you with her bow and arrow or run over you with her bike! (or maybe fallen in love with you and pushed your face in mud to prove it)
-
I do hope we get to meet her again perhaps in a short story where you can expand on her notorious exploits. Rod

That tomboy story is waiting in the wings for its time to come.
