This is a striking posting with a beautiful depiction of nature and the interaction of plant and animal species. It is a very worthy entry in the haiku poetry contest. Best wishes!

Oh, June, this is just wonderful!! It's like an ekphrastic haiku... the perfect use of haiku in the modern world: folks in the big metropolitan areas can never appreciate the wonders of a (Japanese) garden where the haiku originated, but with this combined form, they certainly can!! ;) :) Lovely entry and beautifully written haiku! ;) Thank you for sharing! :) Yvette

What an amazing photo. I've been told that dragonflies are ancient. Been around for eons. This is a well written haiku and I wish you much luck in the contest. Marilyn

Hi June,
This is a very subtle little haiku, to me :) I had to read it a few times to get the full flavor, but I'm pleased to say I got it. Nice description in lines one and two followed by a nice aha moment in line three. The key words in each line, to me, are, "kisses, awaken, and budding".
A very gentle nature experience, but it's lovely when I really think about it. You have a talent for haiku.

I enjoyed your contest entry, June. Great job with the style of haiku. Your words flow well, the lines are connected as required (1& 2). The satori is great. I believe this will be a winner. The picture is a great pairing although your words create a picture themselves. Thanks for sharing nd best wises. Jan

a clever play on words - budding.
and the perfect accompanying picture.
"Blue dragon kisses" - a lyrical and original phrase describing the dragonfly on the budding tulip.
Very pleasing Haiku.

I love this... it is so colourful and brings spring to life with the relationship between the insect and the flower. Your last line is perfect. I like the alliteration of purple petals also.

June,
You know I favor this type of poem. This is really a wonderful story you tell in so few words and 17 syllables.
Your selected picture is a great companion to your gentle words. Do like your satori-like last line and your p-letter alliterative phrase in line 2!
Best wishes for your entry.
Mark
P.S. I entered this contest when it first was announced. May the best one of ours achieve a high result. LOL

I can't remember when I enter contests and often find other entries to be much better than mine when it's time to vote. I know I will be in good company!

This meets the contest requirements beautifully as you deliver a well constructed and enjoyable haiku. The opening two lines are seamlessly interconnected and provide the reader of a clear image of a single moment in time. The kigo is implied in several ways: "blue dragon, "purple petals", and "budding" which are all evocative of spring or summer. The satori is clever and refreshing. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.
