Great flash fiction entry. The empath makes an interesting character. (I think there was one of those on one of the later and inferior Star Trek series.) I like the twist you add to this. When she encounters the man in the park and he threatens her, her touch causes all the sorrow and guilt to leave him. How interesting that she tries to take her life and the man is able to prevent it with his touch. She has apparently passed her power along to him. judi

Whoa, this is really good, Bill. I can imagine there would be residual memory after the healing had taken place. But that thought doesn't occur until after reading your terrific story.
You have such an original and creative mind. Wishing you all good luck with the Committee.

Now that's a super power worth having! I think we need more of those people instead of all those noisy politicians who just seem to do the opposite - reaching in to the inner destructiveness and bringing it out!
Best to you in the contest, Bill!

Thanks, lyenochka. Yes, this would be a neat trick, as long as you can live through it.

A clear warning for all do 'gooders'. Be careful that you do not become too skilled at doing good, it might come back to bite you in an uncomfortable place. Nice story, it gave me a dose of the warm fuzzes.

Hi Bill. An excellent flash fiction. Wow! Where does your mind go? This looks like a winner to me. Well worded, concise, well described. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

This meets the contest requirements nicely as you deliver a complete story in exactly 100 words. I thought the approach clever as it is rare I see empaths referenced in anything here - I am sure the novelty of the topic will serve you well. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

This is an interesting piece of flash fiction. It intrigued me. Not many pieces this short merit a re-read, but I did so with this one {smiles}.
I didn't pick up on any spags.
Good luck with the competition {smiles}.

Wow -- now there's an unexpected tale, Sir Bill -- even better than one of those twist endings! Very cool. Thanx for sharing and best of luck in the contest! ;) Yvette

It?s a contest, so I kept Patty from hurting herself. That irony doesn?t appeal to judges.

The stranger held her arm until the moment passed. They helped each other or was it a lesson for the man not to mistrust everyone. Great storytelling. Wish you the best.

Just an idea of how long a few seconds of someone else?s ailment can be life-changing.

Bill,
I have heard of empaths. So happy I don't know any that live to this extreme. I do have friends that can't help but share your emotions - if you cry, they cry, if you laugh, they laugh, etc. Interesting story. Thanks!
