An excellent poem on the right to bear arms to not only protect ourselves but our country if need be. Good artwork choice for theme. Great rhyming scheme. It is past time to address mental illness and crime in more effective ways, not change the laws and rights given this country and its people because a minority of persons commit major crimes. More support should go to law enforcement and mental health treatment for everyone who needs it. Not treating the mentally ill affects all of us!

Your words are so true They never seem to address what the issues are really about and instead attack our constitutional rights that were given to us. Thank you for your generous 6 stars, it is most appreciated. I have 4 other Spiritual/Patriotic poems if you care to read them in my portfolio. "Wake up America", "We the people", "The White House", and "One Nation Under God". the last one is on page 3 of my portfolio. Of course I have many others on Romance, regular Spiritual, Friendships etc. I plan on writing more Patriotic or Spiritual/Patriotic poems soon. Take care and have a great day.

I so agree with your poem! Of course, when weapons are in the wrong hands, it can be disastrous! But it can be far more disastrous not to be able to protect ourselves and loved ones from the consequences of a weapon getting into the wrong hands. No matter how we try with gun laws, they will always end up in someone's hands that should not have it, so I beg them please never take away my right to legally have protection! Great piece!

Hey Larry: That is a good work to express the importance of the 2nd Amendment. I am a believer the 2nd was passed to guarantee the rest of them. Madison didn't promote it to protect hunting. It's there for citizens to protect themselves. Good work. -Robert-

I have a number of firearms, they're mine and I don't want anyone to take them away from me. The second amendment was written, when all people had were single shot muskets, not automatic assault weapons. There just has to be some middle ground so we can protect ourselves and at the same time keep the crazies from killing children with automatic weapons. I don't know what the answer is, but we do have to find one. Best wishes.

Maybe mention that part of the reason for that amendment is to allow people to protect themselves FROM the government.
I like "defend it with honor"--not as a bunch of blast-happy killers, as some like to portray all gun owners.
