I told myself I would not read any more poems about moms, but went ahead and read it anyway, and glad I did. Lost my mom eight years ago and still can't let her go....Thanks for sharing.

I'm so glad you did read my poem about my mom Richard. It an be hard to let our mothers go. Mine died 6 years ago and I think of her everyday. She was 93 at the time of her death and not well so it was a blessings for her to move on to her next adventure.

tanka prose (touchstone), is an extremely well-written and heart-warming piece. So very many of this talented poet's readers would have very little trouble relating to this piece. I look forward to seeing your next post.

I really liked this. I loved the prose poetry of the opening stanzas, creating that portrait of the plants your mother loved, and your connection to her through them. The pot spilling on the floor reminding you of all those messes you cleaned up together; a personal moment that gives us something we can relate to. The free verse at the end kind of takes off like a bird off a window ledge. Nice use of echoing repetitions in the prose to create some music in the language too. estory

This tanka prose is a relative, I guess, of another Asian model which uses a haiku and the reduced meaningful addition to the prose. This one finds a cool Mother's Day message in the continuation of your mother's care of the plants, which are an extension of her memory. Nice.

What a moving tribute to your mother and a lovely way of expressing your memories of her. I'm currently reading Ray Griffin's (mountainwriter49) collaborative enterprise Under the Gingko Tree, which is marvellous. Now I have a slightly better handle on some of these Japanese short forms! This one of yours seems to me to be a skilled example of the form.

First, thank you Toy for this wonderful review. I am so pleased that you liked it.
Secondly, I am thrilled that you are reading "Under the Ginkgo Tree". I am part of that collaborative enterprise and it has been an amazing 18 month journey to but it together. Ray introduced me to JSF some time ago and I love the form.
Thank you again.

I love this poetic form and you have written a wonderful one.
The moment the jug broke was very sad.
I also love the picture.
Thanks so much for sharing and good luck in the contest.

Touchstone! This is a great way to introduce a reader to your connection to this woman, your mother, and to honor her with beautiful and poetic writing. The use of African violets and Christmas cactus paint a very significant picture, helping us to place her as a human being upon this planet! I feel like I almost know her through just these. It's certainly possible to identify with your feelings for her through these.

Thank you for including a photograph of you and your eighty-year-old mother--you appear to share her good looks! I admired your choice of the tanka prose poem as your vehicle. It captures the mood perfectly, and I could visualize the scene surrounded by your shared "treasures". I admired your concluding tanka and its insight. Enjoy your memories on Mother's Day and best wishes in the contest- Joan

There a ten' t many who write this form well. You float your memories through flawless prose in quiet reflection and almost reverence...how clever to have the dropped jug and cleaning up be the thing that so binds you to your mother...that is what families do best. Your Tanka...Well, it is exquisite!--Karenina
