Hero worship is a fine thing I suppose. However, it is not wise to try to emulate the hero if one is not fully equipped to perform the same level of heroic acts that the hero performs on a regular basis.

I love that you made him a figurehead, seemingly leading the ship. I think you captured Michael very well. Thank you for contributing to the book. It's an excellent poem.

I think that there could never be
a man more humble, Bill, than you.
And I'm quite sure if Mike was here
he'd say that what I claim is true.
How noble is the friend who swears
his friend has bested him (for sure)?
I can't agree with you at all,
but love your motive; truly pure.

I love it. It is perfect for Michael and his creative personality. I love the metaphors and he would as well. Mikey certainly challenged all of us to be our best self and for that he will always be remembered.

Beautifully worded and so elegant! A marvelous tribute, and the rhyme and flow are excellent. Your last two lines are great "but I salute, as with the tide/he launches at the bow. Reminds me of Tennyson's "Crossing the Bar." "And may there be no mourning of the bar when I put out to sea." Really exceptional. judi

A great tribute Bill, I had little to do with Mike, our literary paths crossed occasionally, but apart from that, it's still sad to lose a popular and much loved member of fanstory. It's also true that everyone's unique, and will be missed, A beautifully written tribute to Michael Cahill, written in tetrametric quatrains and aaab rhyming, well done, blessings, Roy

This is a great , with humility that is touching to the heart. We are all guilty of the same thing, believe me. I am so sorry you lost this fine poet and you have honored him. Time will help.

Hi, Bill,
Such a fitting tribute to Michael Cahill. He certainly did a lot to help people find their way around the site. And, he was always encouraging about poetry. He was always telling me to try - no matter that I couldn't get the meter right.
He will be missed,

Beautiful, Bill. I like how you've put him on the bow of a ship, boldly exploring new horizons, which is what he did through writing.
There aren't a lot of good men in the world. I think you are one, and Mikey was also. But the world is filled with selfish people of both genders. That's why we treasure the few who stand out as different. :)
