I'm a firm believer in your philosophy concerning the use of behavior-altering drugs because a kid is little hyperactive or easily distracted. You can also add that some people, including teachers, are quick to label a child as ADD, etc.. at the drop of the hat when the children just need time to mature at their own speed. Best wishes, and this is a very nice children's poem.

Thank you so very much for your awesome review, Victor -- they've tried to 'label' my sons throughout all of their schooling, but they are BOYS....what the hell do they want, robots? Ooops...hope I did not offend...:) :) ;) My oldest went through undergrad in THREE years (by choice!) on full ride scholarship and graduates this May on a full ride from LAW SCHOOL... my middle son graduates in May on full ride (+ laptop!) in engineering and my baby still has this year to decide what he's going to do with his awesome grades.........sorry, don't mean to brag, but all these people with their hollering about labels and drugs make me nuts! :) ;) Soooooo, I'm a little bitty bit passionate about this...LOL!! :) ;) Thnx for the review -- have a colorful week ahead! :)

Yvette, Went through something similar with my youngest son and feel the same way about him as you do your sons. Best wishes.

I must apologize, Victor -- I just re-read my response and realize it was over the top. I am very passionate about this, but it is no reason for my "excessive" answer! My sincerest apologies -- I will dial it back. :) Yvette

No need for apologies, Yvette. If your not passionate about your children's' welfare, who will. I thought your response was most appropriate. Best wishes.

There'll be Moms cheering up and down the country, I'm sure, on reading this. Not a parent myself, but getting them ready must be Herculean, as I know what it is to get a small class of children out for physical education, lol. This is lots of fun, and I'm sure your boys loved it. By the way, your profile photo is very glamorous

Wow - thank you so very much for your wonderful comments, Emma -- you have warmed me on this chilly, sun-less day in the South - Thank you!! :) :) ;) Oh, and the photo I had my son (my baby whose a high school senior this year!!) take after school one day when we got home last Fall -- I actually have posted it before, but it seems to 'disappear into the ether' - LOL! I'm so glad you liked it although, and I know you can get this after reading your post the other day, when I look at it, all I see are those wrinkles around my eyes and neck that used to not be there...ugh! :) ;) But you've got me smiling, ma'am, and, for that, I thank you!! :) ;) Yvette :)

The motivational children's poem, Did You Count to Ten?, gets those precious youths out of their slumber and up and going for a new day. I had the count to ten rule. "If you're not up by the time I count count to ten!"

When mom (aka me) had to resort to that, they'd probably already had some cold water thrown on them...just half a bathroom dixie cup, but still.....and they certainly didn't get a count of 'ten' at that point....kindof a rough life my boys had...LOL! :) :) Thanx for the review and the smile this morning, Sir Bill -- have a great day! :)

This poem is just what the prompt calls for. It's lively and appealing in word
choice and flow--meter and rhyme. It encouraged kids to do the right things in the morning. The title is good too. In line 7, did you mean "plate"? Well,
"place" makes sense too.

Actually 'place' is correct meaning did they clean their place at the table (encompasses more than just the plate 'cuz it helps mom and teaches a necessary 'family skill' - lol!). Thanx for the heads-up, though -- I always appreciate the second set of eyes, Janice! :) Thank you for your wonderful comments and have a colorful week ahead! :) ;)

A counting poem always reminds me of our own dear Adewpearl, now retired from FanStory, and sorely missed. They aren't the easiest to compose and have them be entertaining, as well as convey a moral, but you've managed it well.Best of luck in the contest!

This is a very cute countdown poem, Yvette.
A perfect entry for this particular type of contest.
I would love to hear what this would sound like set to music.
Can you sing--hold a tune, I mean? If so, you might consider making a recording of this.
Good luck in the contest.

You cheated! :) LOL! :) How'd you know it was me? No fantasy this time to give me away...! :) ;) I have a feeling, though, that it won't do well cuz I don't think folks interpreted the 'theme' like I did...another blonde issue, I suppose! :) ;) lol! But, yeah, I can carry a tune (as long as I know it -- my 'reading music skills' are limited to watching the black dots go up and down on the fence that they're written on!), but I guess I never thought anybody else would ever be interested in my little "focus and remember" jingles! :) ;) Glad you enjoyed, Sir Dean -- have a colorful week ahead! :) ;)

I know, Yvette, because the first thing I do when I log onto Fanstory is to check the profile pages of some of my favorite writers, one of them being you, to see what they've been up to.
If they have posted something in a "blind contest", I'll know because all new posts appear at the top of the respective author's profile page.
Viola!
There it was.
See, there's more than one way to skin a cat, heh-heh...

Noooo! You can't skin that rockin' little guy, there! :) LOL! Although he seems to have overdone the caffeine this morning... :) ;) He really made me laugh out loud, though!! Thanx for that, Sir Dean! :) ;)

A very well-written children's poem to teach them counting and to be disciplined at all times from the minute he awakes until he leaves for school there is a time for everything.

I love your common sense approach to life. You can't make someone focus, especially in the morning. You can just try to make their life easier. One of mine had trouble with spelling, so we had a spelling song every week. I can just see your children running through the list in their head. And, I love the timer idea.
Your poem is so useful and fun. Good luck in the contest.

I did not know that you had three boys. I thought that it was your entry, but the 3 boys threw me.

Yep -- all three graduate this year. :)

What a darling idea for keeping kids on track in the mornings. Their excited brains, somewhat sleepy too, can use all the help they can get so early in their day. It does make a nice jingle with its rhyming scheme.

Hello Mystery Writer,
What a clever and joyful poem and real-life aid in helping not only your own children but other children become and stay focused! As a former teacher myself, it all makes sense to me! You are one clever mother/teacher...and I mean that in the most complimentary sense!
Best Wishes!
