Hello michaelcahill your free verse poem of the Toy Soldier is great in the way a young boy images himself of what of what he fears most by being a real solider. Gert

Happy New Year, Michael!
Such a well-crafted free verse poem of a young boy's days as a "toy soldier." Visual and emotive imagery speak to this reader. Lines and stanzas flow very well, and the reader is left with a smile...remembering other days...not as a soldier, but as one of the "Swarthout Kids" always riding a horse to save another orphan. Oh my!
Thank you for this wonderful tale of "derring-do!"

Hi, Michael - Happy New Year.

Great artwork to compliment this piece. This poor toy soldier is working much too hard - but then they tend to do that. I love the zig-zag action and your description of running for cover.

I need to go back and read the rest of this book of 'Paper Dolls and Toy Soldiers.'

Hi Michael, I liked this free verse poem telling the story about a little boy who so wants to be a hero soldier. Bless him that he doesn't yet realise what the consequences could be. Yeah, I liked it a lot and thanks for using the proper word. All the best. Ulla:))

Michael, your work is always a pleasure to read. From the fifty's era, what little boy did not want to go out in a blaze of glory. Now, however... at a much older age, I'd just as soon wait my turn. It will be soon enough. Best wishes.

Endearing free-verse of the escapades of a little boy playing soldier and the adventures he passes his way home. This is adorable and quite a fun read.

Liked this one Michael. Not much of this happening anymore, the world of imagination is dying I think. Such a pity. This was my youth, this was our afternoons after chores and school homework done. I liked how you have woven the imagination parts into the reality of the day, "I ran out of rations long ago" Very cool!
