Someone inevitably will tell you that oils does not rhyme with walls, but I imagine you are already braced against that criticism and I know that the only thing that would worry you about that is the ignorance of others. You have either found the absolutely right artwork for your poem or it is beautifully ekphrastic. Either way it works really well.

Yes, I did expect a comment or two about that, but it seems to have passed unnoticed so far. The photo of my granddaughter tempted me to enter the ?I imagine ? contest, which I probably wouldn?t have done otherwise.

Comment from Gloria ....
First off what a gorgeous picture! Not THAT is art appreciation. I would say your granddaughter was most moved by the painting. Thrilling to see that.
And of course your poem is terrific too and I wish you great luck in the contest. All around beauty.

For you, Tony, my review - (*smile*)
And I, dear sir, imagine I've been blessed,
by words that sing the sweetest melody!
The artist's rendering - at your behest -
adorns with charm the finest poetry.
Alas, I have no sixes left at all.
Upon this masterpiece, I cast my pall -
a measly five to decorate such art.
Your poetry has warmed this woman's heart.

Such a precious picture, Tony! I'm so glad you shared that time with your granddaughter. I often wonder if the younger we are, we are closer to an understanding of the heavenly beings. Seems like your granddaughter knew who they were!
The poem expresses the spiritual experience of enjoying art.

Very many thanks for your review and the six stars, Helen. Much appreciated as always. I think it's easier to inhabit alternative realities when we are younger. Best wishes, Tony

Great poem with the little girl holding her arms up to embrace the little cherubs. She'll sing a song above the earthbound qualms. She will enjoy asking the cherubs back to earth to paint the streets with gold. She'll fill the people's hearts with joy, both young and old.

I love the photo of the artwork and your granddaughter reaching up toward the painting. This is a beautiful ekphrastic poem, inspired by the photo you took at the MET. I love the flow and the rhymes, as well as the choice of words to describe the artist's skills at painting and the reaction of your granddaughter. I like that you wrote the narration from the point of view of the child. My favorite stanza is the last one, especially the last line, which reads, "instilling joy in all, both young and old." What a wonderful idea to imagine. Thank you for sharing your world with your granddaughter. It must be a special bond.
Take care, Jesse

A very well-written rhyming poem about what you imagine what will happen when we return to earth as angels that will do good to all and make it a beautiful place for everyone on earth.

Maybe Trump will mend his way and the children won't have to suffer as they are today. They will be scared forever with separation issues due to his blundering staff.

Cheers, Tony;
=> truly a rich "I imagine" poetic piece of work That is written to make us realiize
the precious gift we have any blessing from the Lord and that is our beloved
children.
=>Many have ridiculed our Americas government handling of the crisis of
alienating refugees As most of us were one ourselves and this and that the
shame?
=>It is become noticeable to me that you've written this in iambic pentameter is
that correct, Tony? Because if you are the following needs to be corrected.
=>(V1, L1) "[I iMAGin,e] ARMS [outSTRETC,HED, I emBRACE..."]
(IMAGINE Is accented on the second syllable)
=>(V1, Lines 2&3) "...the artist's oils(comma)
as..."
=>Good luck in the contest, Tony, take care and have a good one especially
because you all our loved.

Very many thanks for your review and positive comments, Alex - also for the six stars, much appreciated as always. As you suggest, there is a stark contrast between the way we treat our own children and the way in which governments treat refugee children, both in Australia and here in America. You are right that this is mainly written in iambic pentameter, but I had to adjust the first line because of the contest requirement to start the poem with the words "I imagine". All the best, Tony
-
=>I understand, Tony, that it was a situational placement of stanzaic structure of that line and thank you for confirming that.
=>Yeah I don't know, Tony, As with mine I started with "I don't imagine"? I don't know if that'll work?
=>Take care and good luck in the contest, again, Tony.

PS: I guess you guys are having your winter now is try to stay warm along with the animals.
-
Yes, winter in Australia, though I am currently in New York. We spent a few days in San Diego with friends before coming here and at the end of the month go on to England for a couple a weeks and then to Paris for several days before returning home - so I'm enjoying a few weeks of the Northern Hemisphere summer visiting friends and family at the moment.
-
How wonderful for you, Tony, as I was born and raised in upstate New York and lived in Montauk point, Long Island, for a while. San Diego museums are great!
=>Enjoy your holiday, Tony, and may you and your family have a good one.

We?re spending a few days in Beacon at the moment - 80 miles north of Manhattan. Lovely up here.
-
You are right, Tony, that White Plains area north of New York is beautiful.
