...Oh! Wow!! A story and a half here and one that held this reader's interest to the very last...Sad, she was so careless with a wedding gift that appeared to have no meaning or reason for being. Even sadder that the Aunt was aware of all the happenings to her gift. I wish you luck with your Objects of Desire contest entry...Dinah

Thanks so much for the lovely assessment, Aanneee. I guess there's something to that old saying "never look a gift horse in the mouth", although Iris probably wouldn't appreciate being called a horse :)
