Your comments could be a novel in itself and reminds us that no one who is breathing is truly "hopeless." The poem is poignant, balanced, the rhyme consistent and fluid. The story -- highly memorable and a strong tribute to those who trudge a lonely path.

Wow. Thank you, mvbrooks for the six stars! What a blast! Thank you for your lovely review. I think that about 80% of the homeless we helped became productive citizens again. They just needed some stability and an address so they could get benefits and then a job. We were selective. We were acquainted with most via the chess world. The addicts and alcoholics on the street, I never have money to. For them, they got hot food, coffee, and sodas. I was not alone with them. My husband and other chess players were with me. Thank you again

Your verse is well written and well rhymed with a good and clear message.
We should never look down on those who are more unfortunate, for we may find ourselves in that very place someday.

PAMUSART: I know this is a mantra sometimes... I gave out my last 6 yesterday. This is my favorite poem I have read on this site to date. There are not enough adjectives to throw at you. Thanks for this. yours, diana

Your woods mean far more to me than a six star rating would. I am very touched by your comments. Thank you for the virtual six. I?ll take it! I am out of them as well. Thank you for your lovely review and five star rating

Words. Sorry

There was a movie scene about a panhandler begging for money to buy a coat as the winter came. A man gave him the coat off his back and the vagrant went away angrily muttering that he could buy no liquor with a @#$%^ coat. Excellent poem.

Yes, Red. That does happen. I bought a burrito and a soda for one who only wanted booze. I was adamant. He could have the good but no cash

This is a very touching poem with a prefect picture to compliment it. The poem is loaded with both imagery and emotions. The author expresses their passion for helping the homeless and I enjoy that as well.

wow what a fantastic heartfelt poem its such a shame that people look down on the homeless and that we as adults sometimes can think of ourselves as the upper-class when really these people could have been like us at some point
children are so pure and kind and do not judge these people they just want to see them helped
well done

Exactly, Jules! The presence of the child made all of the difference.. She could see through the dirt and rags and tattered shoes and see a human being Adults tend to just ignore them. Thank you so much for the extra star. I really do appreciate it! Thank you for your nice review as well. Take care, Have a good day.

Quite inspirational. You impress me in so many ways and this is just another. I lack your compassion, but am happy you have it. We are all just one step away from misfortune. I try to help as I can and have made some progress - but pale to the likes of you and others.

Hi, Frank. Only one of the homeless I took in was unknown to me. But, some friends knew him. So, it was not like we were taking strangers home. Each had the chance to become productive members of society. Thank you for your thoughtful review and excellent rating

Great rhyme and meter. I saw no errors. The story is familiar. Very sad, it seems there are more and more homeless. I have a friend who quit his good job with an ins co to go into full time ministry with the homeless. He holds church services for them, brings food, clothing, bedding, baby supplies, even bikes. My work place had a contest to see which dept could bring the most supplies for him to give the homeless. (His wife work there and many know him) People went all out, it was so nice. My dept won a popcorn party. Good for you for the work you do. Thank you for doing it.

Hi, Roxanna. Right now the site is having issues and I can?t get to my reviews the normal way. Thank you so much for the extra star. We?re not crazy. We only took people into our homes when we knew them before they became homeless. Just as artists are called starving artists, dedicated chess players were extremely poor. Thank you for your lovely review.
