Yeah, you have those furry little creatures figured out. I have watched them and they are masters at robbing the bird feeders. I like this along with the cute accompanying artwork. Well done.

They love bird seed don't they? I like squirrels even though I've heard them described as rats that can climb trees, I think they are cute. I like your picture that you paired up with your words, thanks for sharing.

This is a really great poem! I love the way you wrote it.
That happens a lot in our backyard too. We have a birdfeeder, and the squirrels always stop by once in a while!
Great work :)

Ah! I am sad for it. Again, emotion ensues. This is very well done in a little short haiku. We want it to go on-help him find sustenance. We want to cheer him on to a big meal. You did well with this and I enjoyed it.

No, Wendy!
No need to be sorry!
My little marauder is very, very well-taken care of...and so are his sisters and brothers!
I swear they were holding a convention on our deck and at our bird feeders all day today! :)
Thank you for your excellent review!

A great little 5-7-5 poem. It paints a good picture in very few words. I've never seen a black
Squirrel. It looks a bit menacing on the illustration unlike the grey ones
I wish you good luck in the competition.

Hello Jen,
No...not menacing...just very chubby!
And the marauder has been at the feeders all day today!
Thank you for your complimentary and positive review!

Poor hungry squirrel. Nicely covered motion and thought. I don't recall ever seeing a black squirrel- it creates a nice contrast with the other words and thoughts. In hopes of being helpful I would prefer picturing snow covered fences as I get distracted thinking how the little guy was going to navigate fence posts

Hah!
Believe me, Frank, this little cheeky bugger has no problem navigating anything! He really does scurry across the fence rails, dives onto the ground, leaps onto the deck, then its railing, and off he goes to the birdfeeder - two of which are on the deck railing! Today he was joined by at least three of his brothers or sisters! Pretty entertaining!
Thank you for your thoughtful review!

No such entertainment for me in weatherless Coronado CA V

Wait!
Frank!
I just now realized what you were saying!
Of course he scurries across the rails. He jumps over the posts!
In the postscript I had written rails, too! Not sure how the posts ended up in the haiku, but I have changed it to "rails."
Thank you for your subtle suggestion! Much appreciated!

Your 5-7-5 haiku paints a clear image of the squirrel and its actions. The accompanying artwork fit your haiku beautifully.

How awful. All that running for nothing. I can imagine the squirrel's disappointment. Alliteration with squirrel scurries, fence and feeder. Assonance with bird and squirrel. Loved the author notes. What fun to watch.

Cute... Nice imagery in few words. Successful haiku! I actually have a plastic Barbie pool I put out for the squirrels to keep them out of my feeders. It's been fun to watch them especially the baby squirrels! They are a bit picky though! In this case they share with the birds. I degrees...good job..brings a smile to my face thinking of your black squirrel!

How true to life this is! The color of the squirrel in contrast with the snow is a very strong image. Also strong because he is a thief! Best of luck in the contest.
