This is a lovely Christmas poem, Dawn. I particularly like the fact that you've made it PERSONAL by asking us if it were OUR son, would we be willing to make that kind of sacrifice. (Hell no!) That's what makes it stand out from the usual Christmas fare. Well done!

Reminds me of the great song 'Mary, Did You Know?"
Very well done and the rhyme and flow are excellently done and the questions are posed to make us think. Could we?

A wonderful reflection on our relationship to the core meaning of Christmas (accompanied by one of my favorite Christmas songs). The event is now over 2,000 years in the past - it hasn't changed, but we have. Your poem is a great reminder of that.
I like the line about some thinking there is nothing to be gained by being overawed. I have respect for most atheists, but not so much for those atheists who are quite sure that they are too smart to believe. Given our limitations, there's a lot to be said for humility - your poem hits that message.

Hi Dawn, a very thought provoking poem. No, I don't think any mother would be able to make that sacrifice without breaking her heart. But then again, I'm not religious, although I truly believe Jesus did go to his crucifixion.
Wonderful poem
I pray we all we remember = I pray we all remember
All the best. Ulla:)))

I've wondered myself if anyone but Mary would have done such a thing. As you pointed out in your lovely poem, we'd probably think we were hallucinating or dreaming.
Are there strong people today who would follow God no matter what as those did in the Bible? When asked to sacrifice a son?
I find that too few still believe in miracles, while I see one nearly every day. It's all in the perception.

You pose a valid question in this one. With so much modern technology, I fear many would wait for someone else to actually make the trip. Although I believe in science, I still believe Christ was real, born in Bethlehem, and died on the cross for our sins. Beautifully written and definitely thought provoking. This is a great entry for this contest and I sincerely wish you all the best.
