Well, I just love this!! Yes!! I can rock fast, slow, or not at all. No 'back seat rockers' to give unasked for advice!! Wonderful! Blessings....

Thank you for your enthusiastic review.

Clever way to show the "driver's seat" as a rocking chair as it shows that while one might have more say, there's not much we can do by the time we reach old age. I'm reminded what Renoir said, "By the time I could afford steak, I didn't have the teeth to chew it."

Thank you for the very humorous review.
Comment from Dawn Munro
What a wonderful senryu! The satire is splendid. How many of us live our lives feeling it is always others controlling things, controlling us? This should do VERY well in the contest, IMO.

Thank you for such a positive review.

A very well-written senryu. To be in charge of the rocking chair on the porch. It feels like you are finally in the driver's seat and in full control for once. Good luck with the contest.

These short little pieces aren't easy. I liked yours. Love the metaphor of sitting in the rocking chair and being in charge. About what? Perhaps nothing at all. Good luck in your contest.

Thank you for understanding the message and the good words.

I've never thought about it that way. I'm going to tell all my senior patients they're in the driver's seat. LOL Actually, I'll only say it to the ones with a sense of humor. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for sharing the humor.

How amazing was your choice of words! I really thought this particular human haiku brought life and choice. Very well done. I loved the rocking chair as it does rock us right out of the chair! Wonderful. I wouldn't change anything.

Thank you for understanding the message and for the extra star. I'm thrilled with it!

This captures the mixed feelings that come with our maturing years - finally being in the driver's seat, but does anyone else want to enter the car with us? You've accomplished what you've set out to do with this.

this is a well constructed senryu that brings to my mind the taking over of the family reigns. The fact of 'being in charge' could be because someone died. This is usually a bigger responsibility than most folks imagine.
Thank you for sharing and good luck in the contest,

Thank you for your good words and good wishes. Actually the rocking chair suggests retirement that is often a goal, but it is not always productive.

There was a lot said with so few words. That's great writing. I myself am a porch rocker and never thought of it as being in the driver's seat. I'm glad to hear that. It uses wonderfully subtle humor to get the point across. I enjoyed reading it.
