Awww.... Poor Old Beauty - she sadly thinks she's been forgotten because of the new little pup! What a dear ending to your story and how one little girl gave Old Beauty the "Forever Hug" she so needed! Great work - loved your story!

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. We all loved the old dog, but puppies are so much fun.

Hi there;
Thank you for sharing your entry in the fifty-word contest. You managed to write a complete story, and squeeze my heart a bit. Good luck in the contest,

Thank you, my friend. So glad you enjoyed my jaunt to the past.

I was sad for Old Beauty from the first sentence. Just the vision of the dog feeling rejected because of the new puppy. I am glad she was loved best. Hopefully Old Beauty came to love the new puppy.

Thank you. I was the little girl and I did love the old dog best, always.

Well told, with beauty and expression. Very hard to write a touching story with 50 words, but you did it. I too am a dog lover and we rescued a Manchester Terrier (Duke, after John Wayne) about a year ago and our Chi-Poo (Goldie after Goldie Hahn) still has times when she doesn't accept her new roommate.
Best to your husband and you.

Thanks for reading and commenting. Animals feel jealousy too. I just got a new kitten and all the old cats hate him.

This is a wonderful heart-touching poem. Of course, animals have feelings. All you need to do to understand that is watch a pet react to the return of an owner it hasn't seen for a long time.

Thanks for reviewing this short story. I was the little girl, and I always loved the old dog best.

I can relate to your story as we have always owned dogs. Sometimes we don't realize that they have feelings too. A new puppy is always hard to resist, bouncing around the place. The way you have written it brings this story to life, and places old Beauty in our hearts.

Thanks for reading and the excellent review. Yes, animals have much the same emotions as humans.

Who said dogs don't have feelings? Of course they do. Your well written little story proves it! Thanks for sharing. Love the picture of Old Beauty. Best wishes. Jan

Thank you, Jan. Of course, animals have emotions much like humans do.

This story made me cry. I loved it. Great story in 50 words. I was terrified it would end with the dog dying, so it was a relief to have the little girl come over and comfort the dog.

Thank you for reading and the six stars. I didn't mean to make you cry. I was the little girl who loved that old dog. There is a family picture where I have my arm around Old Beauty.

A very well-written sad and heartfelt story about old Beauty the first dog you can recall that died suddenly while all the children around him were playing with the new puppy.

Animals know they aren't stupid. I loved this fifty word story. We must waste so many words when we tell a long story and take ages doing it, when you told a complete story in fifty words. Well done! Sincerely Anne.

Thanks, my friend. This was a contest quite a while back and I decided to promote the story again. For some reason, the dog picture did not appear in the original writing.
