Another interesting poem and form presented. We are always a friend to someone and we everything we can to make our friendships work.

You always have a way of creating an uplifting poem from something somber! :)
I love your self-statement! There's so much kindness in it and also, very realistic!
"always friend" - I can fully see that! ;)

Interesting style... I have to say, I like yours much better than hers, I'm not sure i'm a fan of the separated pronouns to the lines... but hey, I see what you're doing. As Mary Oliver says, we learn by imitating, reading, imitating, reading... repeating. ;)
Well done,
Cat

Hi Cat!
Gwendolyn Brooks has diversity. This is the only one of her poems that I read that was written in this style, but it just really struck me. Don't be surprised, I may have to try another variation or two lol My other post today is her, too, but in a vastly different style. I just met her today, but I like her. :) Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!
*hugs*

Kim,
I really enjoyed your poem. I love the way you formatted the lines, and can easily see where you got your inspiration.
I like how you used the 'I'. I love the great rhyme, too. Thanks for the author notes.
Good job and thanks for sharing. Jan

Another splendid pairing. This is an interesting format. I might try it too sometime. Love the way you hang the personal pronoun between each pair of ambivalent ideas.

Hi Tony,
I really just couldn't get past that same style from Gwendolyn Brooks' "We Be Cool," today. I just had to try it! I have a feeling I may have to do more lol thanks for the interest in her style today :) What I've enjoyed the most is sharing poets that the readers might not come across otherwise.
