I recently took my little buddy of 14 years on a final trip to the vet; I know the pain you felt. About 3 weeks later, my daughter brought me a "rescue" cat. Coincidentally, she is a calico. You should try a recue; I highly recommend the therapy. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you, my friend. All my cats are rescue cats. I have six cats left after Tasi's passing. We live on a farm and all of these cats were either dropped off or I found them along the roads. Tasi followed me home from my friend's house but she had a reason. My friend did not take good care of her cats and Tasi never got anything to eat unless I fed her. I'm sorry you lost your buddy too.

Pets can have a lasting affect on us. I've had several that I've been attached to. One thing to look at: "fed her separate." Since "separate" is used as an adverb in this sentence, it should end with "ly" as in "fed her separately."

Thank you. You are correct, I don't know how I missed that. Great catch. I will correct.

Sentimental story of a cat's life that I can see in a person's life. Your story brings to memory a dog in my youth. Thanks for sharing

Thank you. I just put Tasi to sleep so the grief is fresh. Thanks for caring.

So hard to write a history in 200 words but this was nicely done. One comment I would make: in the sentence "...and fed her separate." I think the word should be "separately". An adverb [sorry... English teacher}

Thank you. Yep, you are the second reviewer who caught that mistake. I will edit and correct. Thanks again.

Hi there...what a neat story. I love cats and have three...one has kidney failure and will not live as long as I'd hoped, but she's been the best pet ever. So loyal and sweet. It's hard to lose them and I'm sorry you lost Tasi. I had a friend who had barn cats too, and there was a litter of kittens where one was a runt so I took her home only to have our landlord's dog kill her. I was devastated -- she was only about five weeks old. I had let her out to explore the grass and looked away and the dogs got ahold of her. Her name was Katydid because she purred so loud and was so happy. Now I'm crying, remembering. Oh, one nit. It should be 'separately' rather than 'separate'. Just a small thing. Nice writing. s.

Thank you, and thanks for catching my error. So sorry to hear about the loss of that kitten. There is nothing I hate worse than a cat-killing dog. It is more the fault of the dog's owner than the dog. Dogs can be taught to get along with cats.

Hello, do you do it often? The way you wrote the ending it sounds like you take cats to the vet for their final ride all the time.
The story is very well written. I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you. Yes, we have a lot of barn cats and I often have to take one to be put down. It is always a sad thing to end their lives.

This broke my heart. You were the best friend Tasi had. She had a great life while she lived with you, and you were her friend in the end.
Good job. Best wishes in the contest.
The picture is awesome. I love cats as you can tell. Thanks for sharing.

I feel the same, except I have always had a mix of cats and dogs. It's easier with cats, they seem to understand when you fail them and the end comes.
I didn't count the words, just liked the story.

Thank you. I have dogs too. It is just as hard to end a cat's life as it is a dogs.

This is a fantastic story of love and that we cherish in the lives of our pets. This is the best entry as of now in my opinion and I will be there to vote.

You cat has absolutely beautiful eyes. I enjoyed your story except that you had to put her down. We just had to do that to a cat last week that we had for 20 years,so I can relate to how bad it makes you feel

Thank you. Yes, it does make me feel terrible. We put Tasi down two days ago so the grief is still fresh.
