Hi Kim. I enjoyed your post for today. Wonderful rhyming and interesting to read. Your hubby looks like a nice guy and we know he enjoys fishing and hockey. How long have you two lived in Alaska? I've been there many times. It's beautiful, but I would miss four seasons. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,
We do get all four seasons, you just sometimes miss spring or especially fall if you blink lol Summer lasts about two months, three if we are lucky... the weather in May or September can be tricky, depending on the year. We are getting great weather now, so Summer should be early this year :) But that makes sense, as we had snow early in September last fall.
I grew up here in Alaska. My family moved here when I was a toddler in 1969, so it is the only place I actually remember living (I was a few months shy of turning two when we arrived.) James moved here when he got out of the Army, back at the end of the 80's. His dad was in the Navy, so he was born in Long Beach, CA, but grew up in Washington and Colorado after his dad got out of the military.
We love living here and enjoy all our state has to offer. Thanks for taking the time to read and share your thoughts. :)

What about SADS do you not suffer from the midday moon during those long dark months or is the thrill of puck hunting enough to blow them all away.
What a lovely feast of poetry you have given us today, this little conversation piece and updike's humour. thanks for making my day.

Hi Pantygynt:
I grew up here and am so used to it, SAD isn't a problem for us. We stay pretty busy lol This is my first year not working, so up until now, I was working anywhere from 40 to 60 hours per week. I've always been active in volunteering and have been so happy to have time to devote to supporting our hockey team. I'm on the Board of Directors for the Nanooks booster club and have done a lot of fundraising this winter, including working with a company to develop a game (based on the Monopoly model) themed around Nanook hockey. (Nook-Opoly) The fans are loving it and we've made good money this winter! Yep, the thrill of puck hunting is enough :) No time for cabin fever here! lol
I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the poetry and humour, and the share of Updike, too! :) Thanks for making MY day! :)

Excellent.
There's just one change I would like to suggest to make this even better:
"And store my gear when forecast's snow and ice." Could be better if reads, "Store gear when forecast turns to snow and ice".
I live in a climate opposite to yours. I live in the tropics, so the seasons here are - 1. autumn and winter (hot and dry) and
2.spring and summer (bloody hot, humid and pouring rain).
Well done and good luck.

Hi Jane,
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my poem. I appreciate your suggestion for the line change, that seems to work well. I'll make that edit. We live in Fairbanks, Alaska and get all the extremes of weather for our state. It can reach 100 degrees F. in the summer and drop down to -60 degrees F. in the winter. (fortunately, that doesn't tend to stay for very long) All in all, we love it! I couldn't really imagine living anywhere else.
Thanks for the great review.

A great season poem. We have sometimes 4 seasons in one day. Cold like winter on an early morning, then spring from 10 - 2am, Summer heat from 2 - 5 and autumn from 5 - 7 until the sun sets in beautiful color fashion.

Hi Sandra!
The running joke up here is that June = Spring (as we sometimes have snow through May), July = Summer, August = Fall, and by September it can be snowing again lol
My husband just prefers that it is either fishing season or hockey season :) Thank you for taking the time to read and review. I enjoyed your comments.

One hundred percent for humour and cleverness. A really great story told of life for James and Kim.
I'm impressed you went with iambic pentameter - I know you love it so ;-) It was perfect too, until we got to the salmon and halibut; off in a few places after that.
I like it a lot - well done Kim :)

Hi Craig :)
You are welcome to tell me where it is off if you must lol I saw no other fix for the salmon and halibut line, and that one is essential. (Yes, I actually knew it was off in that spot) (gasp!) Can you believe it? ;)
I'm happy you like it, it is a fun one, written while we were watching Colton's game! Blues won!!! We're up 3 games to 1 in the series!
*hugs*
