The humour and evident love that shines through this piece of writing is probably in marked contrast to the way you felt when you discovered the keys were locked inside! LOL I hope you find a solution short of breaking the quarter-light, which was the only way I could get in when a similar thing happened to me a while back.

I managed to get the Honda agency owner out today and he kindly 'broke' into the car and got the keys back. All for the cost of tea and Christmas cake--God bless him!

I keep my car keys in my right hand pants' pocket and a spare in my coin purse - left hand pants' pocket. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

What a frightening moment with your dog! I know that feeling. I was with a friend who let his dog in from outside; it ran into the living room and tipped over dead. And my mother's Yorky died suddenly after biting big dog in the butt (some holidays are better than others). I'm glad you were able to save your Pug.
Enjoyed the description of your sheep farm. I've read that the weather on the South Island is quite different than the North. How many miles is it from the northern tip of the North Island (where I hear it's almost tropical) to the south most of the South Island?
In spite of your key problem, you're having good days.

In NZ we use kilometres. I have no idea how far it is. Things look relatively close on a map, but they are far. It takes about 7 hours driving from Invercargill to Christchurch. Our roads are single lanes with few passing lanes. Speed limit is 100km/hr.
I've been to Auckland 2 or 3 times when my plane has touched down to catch another flight. So I've seen the airport. Traffic congestion during peak hours in Auckland is madness. Taxis charge for time passengers spend sitting in their cars, not distance travelled. NI is hectic and cosmopolitan but towns in SI are small and slower. Invercargill is the southern most city with a population of 50 000.

What about a title something like: Dark Hills of Rhodesia? Or maybe just Dark Hills.
-
'Dark Hills' could be interpreted as having a racial overtone. Although the story starts in Rhodesia, the country soon becomes 'Zimbabwe'. Then she moves to South Africa where most of the story is carried on, and then it turns to various work experiences followed by romance experiences.
-
Maybe just Dark Hills. It can be taken a lot of different ways?which can broaden the appeal.
