Hi Steve
a great poem high lighting the damage us greedy so called knowledgeable humans are doing. We should all take a step back and think about this before it's to late.
Lovely read.

Thanks, Brenda. I guess there is greater awareness today, but in many places the madness goes on.

An extremely expressive and noteable effort here Steve with a profound message we all need to take heed of.
Your third stanza brought the point home of the damage we are doing not only to our planet but ourselves as well.
I found this line heavy with "man stands"
Our oceans choke on filth; man stands disgraced.
A smoother suggestion
Our oceans choke on filth; we stand disgraced.
I think "we" covers "man" but understand you may well be happy with what you had.
I can only give my thoughts on how it panned out for moi.
Great concept for a series of poems which not only feature a prominent and worthy subject, but keep it in the forefront of the minds of those who can word inspiration in such a way, people just MIGHT want to do something about it.
Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading more of these.

Thank you. Yes, it's a wonderful project and quite an honour to have this piece chosen as the Master template. Climate change must seem fairly real to you at the moment - did I see 42 degrees today? And bushfires already?

Yup and yup.
Cool change hitting later...thank God...nearly melting LOL

Dear Steve,
I regret to tell you that I am a sceptic as regards the cause of climate change, but your sonnet lists other deadly sins of modern man and, obviously, is superb piece of poetry. I hope the remaining 14 are as worth reading as this.

If I read your words correctly, you accept that the climate is changing, but not that the change is man-made - just part of a natural cycle. I accept that scientists sometimes get it terribly wrong, but there is almost overwhelming consensus on this...
In any case, it won't harm the world to burn less carbon fuel and to stop polluting the place - scary pics out of Beijing this week.
I don't imagine either you or I will be around to discover who is right.

Hello Kiwi :)
Beautiful sonnet for the sonnet wreath challenge. I read a few more. The topic is so contemporary, we have a big problem with climate change. I've seen pictures of polar bears in the Artic. The effects of reductions in sea ice negatively influences the condition and reproductive success of polar bears and their prey.
Good job!

Thanks, GBR.
I believe we have only seen the tip of the flow-on effects of climate change. Alteration to animal/plant habitat has enormous consequences.

A brutal and stunning assessment Steve! But one we need to face.
This wondrous, majestic planet has been used and abused
to the point of possibly no return. It is mankind that has
wrecked most of this havoc and it is our onus to repair and
revitalize her glory.
A beautifully constructed Sonnet, a heart-wrenching message.

Thank you. Hopefully the agreement reached in Paris this week will amount to more than mere words.
Change is difficult and all governments have to deal with voters who don't necessarily understand that some pain is required...

Right on! We must come together and stand up for this planet's future. Love the elegance of its meter and rhyming. My favorite is the first verse. That sets the tone. Wonderfully written. Les

Oh Steve, this is so wonderful! What an elegant sonnet - I'm not at all surprised your work was chosen as the Master Sonnet for this Wreath. It's impossible to choose a favourite stanza - it's all gorgeous! ...sigh... only Monday and I'm down to my last six, but there's no way I can rate this anything less than exceptional.

Oh my, Steve, you really are gifted. This is just brilliant and has to go somewhere other than here to be shared. It brought/brings tears to my eyes.
What a magnificent world we have. And something tells me we bloody well don't deserve it. What have we done?
'Repair the rift'. Yes, indeed, and then some. I only hope it's not too late.
Superb, sir. Needs to be published.

Av, thanks so much for the warm words and the six stars.
It would be nice to think that his generation was the one that managed to turn things around - the dreaded tipping point must be awfully near if the scientists are to be believed.

Comment from Gloria ....
Steve this is an exceptional master sonnet for sure. I can see every line beautifully developed to deliver a fine Wreath of Sonnets.
There really isn't anything more to say--you've said it all, and extremely well.
Congratulations on your well deserved win. Oh one small correction mflower's name is actually mfowler. :))

I'm sure Mark won't mind being a flower rather than a fowler for a while. And I can blame Jyoti for the original mistake!
I look forward to seeing what you other sonneteers can make out of this template!
