Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria tore the top off the top.
And Gene Hackman played it so straight it hurt.

I love the film (and the original French version), but you impressed me by writing a real review. You get two thumbs up, and my vote--sorry no sixes left.

Thanks for this great review, hw. I agree Lane and Azaria were both scene stealers. Robin was originally offered the Lane role, but decided on the more subdued role. I would love to see the outtakes or have been on the lots when filming. Thanks for your comments and vote...I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

Director Mike Nichols' 1996 hilarious comedy, "The Birdcage" is one of the funniest films I've ever seen. The late, great Robin Williams as a gay cabaret owner, and his drag queen partner, played to the hilt by Nathan Lane, has to be one of the best comedic duos in cinematic history. I don't recall doing much singing while I watched it, but I sure laughed until I cried!

You have a strong opening line showing the cast
is first-rate. The second line confirms that
the comedy is over the top...much laughter.
Then the line comes that makes one know that
this is a really great comedy with continuous
humor to keep you in side bursting laughter.
