Wonderfully written and a great read. Non many of us can boast of such a background. Poor Gaila was only one of many children lost in such a way..
Indeed the strength of our ancestors help to shape who we are

Thank you so much for reading it. Other people stories are only interesting to them usually

Hi Apelle,
What an extraordinary family legacy! You made this bit of history come alive because your grandfather actually lived it.
A bit of spag: Seventh pg.: he and his family (not him)
I really enjoyed reading this.
Hugs,
Lou

this is an excellent write, apelle, you did an excellent job telling us your story and the political and personal history of your family, I enjoyed reading it. I commend your grandparents for their bravery in leaving everything behind during such an embattled time. and the loss of the little girl was so sad to read. good luck in the contest. are you galiag on fanart or was that a coincidence that the artist is named like the little girl that was lost?

Wow your family has a great story surrounded by amazing historical events and I can see that you are very proud of your grandparents who lived that part of world history. I'm just so sad for your grandmother who lost her little girl in that tragic bombing. I enjoyed the bit of History lesson here.
Very well written. I enjoyed the read. Best to you in the contest.
Blessings,
Anabella

I enjoyed your story very much, the history, the World War events, it was informative. I have to say that some of your turns of phrase and expressions are not really worded right and feel a bit awkward. I have done some corrections: Title should read: "What Lies Beneath"-lay is a transitive verb which needs an object. Para 1, accommodates who we are/takes into account who we are, and there will always be........Para 4, Lvov, part of South Eastern Poland at that time, but then occupied by............ How many people can lay claim to having Hitler and Lenin as part of their story? Para 5, think much of it...........Para 7, snippets of information I had learned about........Para 9, he and his family......Para 11, reiterated tolerance. Para 12, ally of the US. I hope you find my suggestions useful, good luck in the contest. Faye

I can see how what our family has experienced is passed down to us and becomes part of our memory from which we operate--make decisions. Thus our family history does influence our future. Galia's memory will be passed on for generations just as you passed it to us here.
I saw nothing to correct and wouldn't change a thing in this well written entry.
Good luck in the contest.
