Your words give a voice to those who have served and now need our help. My father was a World War II veteran, so I can relate to your words. Excellent haiku form that creates feelings and sends a strong message.

Well written poem, that should also be a good contest entry. Tells the unforgivable plight of too many of our Veterans upon their return home. No way they should be treated like this.

Matter of choice. 99.9% vets live productive lives in one way or another. Drug addition is normally the cause of most downfalls. The vet can qualify for education, homes, jobs, all at his or her fingertips. up to them. I am a vet and know this. However, I voted for you because you were thinking of us.

Ben,
Thanks so much for your service. I agree, a matter of choice. My husband is a Vietnam and Gulf War veteran and suffers from PTSD and other major illnesses due to the wars. I fought for years to get my husband the help he needed through the VA medical system but to no avail. We had to outside the VA medical facility to get the help he needed. After a near death experience in 2012 he was finally recognized a total disabled vet. I often wonder if I had not stood by my husband and fought for him where would he be, he had no other family member to turn to. Since the VA Medical system is so overwhelmed with making appointments for patients he has been given the option to continue to see outside doctors rather than be in wait for an appointment with the VA and they will pay which is a blessing. Thanks so much for your review and vote. Blessings......................................

Truly I am sorry for all the red tape you and your husband has had to endure. I know the score well about Agent Orange etc. I had a buddy I served with fought the system for the help and settlement. He died still fighting the system, but his widow finally got the large sum and befits. I was thinking about him the other day and how we both hated the situation and why they put us through the ropes as they have. I get good care now after a long fight with them but when dealing with crony politicians and people who have no clue what it is all about what can you expect. Yes, we need military leadership in charge not fat cats who keep on getting fatter on our tax dollar. Ooops, I have said enough. Blessings to you and your family.

A poignant and moving poem. How true, that veteran soldiers are left to fend for themselves, after risking their lives for their countries.

A very good haiku series of veterans' plight and how our country has let them down. Written well. Your words do paint a picture for the reader.

I completely agree with the message of your poem. It is well written and beautifully presented. The red and blue combination brings home the message of vets. I am so sorry that our world's heroes, once honored by mankind are left alone and tormented by what they have seen and done for our freedom! Great job,
Rhonda

Very intelligent. It takes awhile for me to get the Haiku right, and you have done it three time. This is a powerful wake up call. There needs to be cheap accommodation for those who served in the war. Perhaps military accommodation until they get back on their feet.

Coming home is the hardest part of serving
when while they are away their lives changed
for them, leaving nothing to come home to.
There must be a way to help them heal both
outward and inward. Only God has the answers.
We can pray!

An excellent entry for this contest. We as a nation should not forget those selfless men and women who served our country, in order that we are able to continue our life-style.
You have a strong message in this well written haiku suite.
Good luck in the contest.

I like the message behind this poem. You are right, the old are treated like dirt by the government. If it weren't for them we would be speaking German. This is a great poem and thank you for sharing.
