A good story about parenting and emotional pain in this excellent story about a boy who almost took his own life because of it. A good message wih a moral, and a fine bible reference.

Thanks Treischel, for the review. You do realize it is fiction.

This is very well done Pat. Parents can sometimes be overzealous judging their children and they do not understand that the children need to find their own path and emotional growth is just as important as physical growth. Exception story and advice. Nancy

Thanks Nancy for the great review. At 77 years of age, I finally have a bit of wisdom. :-)

Absolutely right.
You really hit the problem head on.
People are so afraid of their children learning to love the same that they overreact and actually do more damage than good..
Nicely played

Thanks for the nice review.

This is outstanding, Patricia! I am moved with this figurative lesson from a literal story. Parents do so much need to be reminded of the fragile nature of their child's emotion. sometimes parents tease too much. Other times they are way too harsh for the offense.
Thank you for your author's notes which explained things well.

Thanks Janet for the nice review. I had written this story a number of years ago, but could not locate it, so rewrote it.

Oh my goodness! I love this story. Do you mind if I saved it as a picture or a document classified as final with your name as the author?

Thanks for your review. I see by your profile that you will be a sophomore in high school next year. I don't mind if you save it as long as my name is on it. I did edit it and now have my name under the title. What is a document classified if I might ask. I am a 77 year old great grandmother of 5 kiddos. So I am probably more than 60 years older than yourself.

I don't know why I'm laughing now. You know that classified means to arrange or organize into classes or groups. Right? If you go to file in the upper left hand corner of Word- it doesn't matter what year you have, or how long your document is; oh it works on PowerPoint too- and then off to the right, you'll see a box that says Protect Document. When you click it, a drop box pops up. One of the options are Mark As Final. That's what I meant by "document classified as final." There is also an option to protect it with a password, if you want to. I don't know what the others are, though.
-
I don't mind if you are laughing, you are young and grew up with computers, I have just done things on the computer since 1999 and before that I was one scared old lady when it came to computers, but now I am fairly comfortable with them, but still learning. My life story was made into a radio drama. To hear it go to
www.oneplace.com/ministries/unshackled
when at the site go to the archives for Oct 2014 and my name Patricia Lawrence It is a 2 part story so listen to 3325 and then 3326 so the story will be in context.
Like jellystone :-)

Hi Patricia,
This is a very well written story about how children should be given freedom to play with what they enjoy. Childhood is a learning time but it has to have unconditional love in it to become balanced adults with no hangups.
Well done

Thanks Mary, I had a very critical mother as a child and had a lot of hang-ups for a long time.

This was a story well reading. The moral was what many parents need to hear. I enjoyed reading it. I was going to point out a few grammatical issues, but I chose not to because you spoke from the heart and I should not fault that... Thank you for sharing a well put together story of spiritual emotion. Keep on writing. Your FS friend, K. Lorraine

Thanks for the nice review. I would not have been offended if yo9u pointed our grammatical issues. I did use the grammar check on my program, but sometimes it does not always pick up issues.

Agreed... but not worthy of pointing out such trivial things. Hugs, Kay

Thank you.

There's a great lesson for all here. I grew up in a critical household and I know how it can bring you down and the damage it can do. Kids should be allowed to be kids and explore what they have an interest in. You are so right about this boy learning to stuff his emotions. The parent was not letting him have any emotions.

Great advice for parents, especially those who don't realize that constant criticism is a form of emotional abuse.
Cute pic of grandson.

Hi there,
This is a nice little piece with a very timely and important message. It is almost parable like in its telling. Being overly critical can indeed be demoralising and lead to disaster. I used to run a children's home and many of the kids I looked after had so many emotional plasters, they were solid, and couldn't move. It was heart breaking.
very nice piece.
mother said, Jeremy, "why do you have to play girls games?" - mother said, "Jeremy, why do you have to play girl's games?"
