A great shot of horror here. Reminds me of someone being buried alive, or being awake during surgery, but no one knows it. No one able to hear you scream. Good work.

Thanks, srcaps, and that's the sort of claustrophobic feeling I was striving for. I very much appreciate your feedback. ~Dean

Excellent story. Writing was interesting.
Aeon Cryogenics Corporations employees celebrated their first-ever successful cryogenic freezing.
The unfortunate Mr. Watson had no way of letting them know he was still very much awake.

Now that can really leave one cold;it's not likely to melt anyone's heart! Poor Mr. Watson. But your story is great, of course. Evi

Hey, thanks a million for the exceptional comments and all those shining stars, Evi. I'm glad you "got this," most of all (some didn't...yeah, I thought it was fairly self-explanatory too!), but more than that, I hope you were entertained, and just a bit scared, heh-heh. All is greatly appreciated, my supportive fiend...er-r-r, heh-heh...friend!

Don't we all treasure an immortal image of ourselves; one we are loathe to share. We might call it our soul even when there is something dead in us. Don't we know that ; "We are such stuff as dreams are made of and our little lives are rounded with a sleep."

I can honestly tell you this, Kim. I have no desire to be immortal. Immortalized through my works, perhaps. Maybe even known for being kind through my deeds and actions towards others. But not immortal.
In Shakespeare's, The Tempest, Prospero has has time to give a beautiful speech that these wonders (his magic), much like life, will melt into thin air eventually. He says, "We are such stuff as dreams are made on; and our little life is rounded with a sleep." It's a beautiful saying, sure, but also a little haunting.
Thanks very much for your review. ~Dean

Hi Spooky,
Another great entry into the book.
Very short and extremely effective. I love the use of the word 'balderdash', a very underused choice!
What a horrifying premise.
Nice one.

Hey, thanks a million for reading the story, G-Man, I really appreciate that. I'm also grateful for the six stars, but more important than that, I'm pleased to know that you enjoyed it.
Thanks again, Mate!

This reminds me of a twilight zone episode. It reminds me of people who were buried alive and had no hope of being rescued, or people who are in a coma.

This puts the cry in Cryogenics.....it puts the scream in ice-scream
Longevity is not what it's cry-ked up to be
Dean make it stop...I'm punishing
Well boils and ghouls will do that at times
God bless

Hah-ha -- no, no, jenny! By all means, keep going! You're on a roll. Just make sure it's never a dinner roll...if you catch my drift.
Thanks very much for the punny review. ~Dean

There is something about this that reminds me of an Alfred Hitchcock or Rod Serling story. Creepy without being gorey (my personal choice). Your simple, direct language increases the drama. thanks! Caroline

Thank you for reading and reviewing it, Caroline. I'm not a big fan of slasher flicks or blood and guts. The great Stephen King was once quoted as saying; "The 3 types of terror: The Gross-out: the sight of a severed head tumbling down a flight of stairs, it's when the lights go out and something green and slimy splatters against your arm. The Horror: the unnatural, spiders the size of bears, the dead waking up and walking around, it's when the lights go out and something with claws grabs you by the arm. And the last and worse one: Terror, when you come home and notice everything you own had been taken away and replaced by an exact substitute. It's when the lights go out and you feel something behind you, you hear it, you feel its breath against your ear, but when you turn around, there's nothing there..."
I happen to agree.
Thanks so much again... :)

When I read this story I actually shivered. There are stories of people who were buried alive or being operated on and not able to tell their doctors they feel every slice of the knife. Poor Mr. Watson. He is experiencing a new twist on something old. Good job!

Dean, well you must remind me to never fall for this marketing ploy lest I be in the same predicament. lol.. You know there is a condition, a rare condition, where there are no detectable vital signs but the person is still alive, though in a deep sleep. I forgot what it is called. you should do a story on this subject.. hehehehehehooooooohhhh.... jlsavell

Yep, and so far, six or seven fellow Fanstorians have graced its contents with their wonderfully creepy stories. :)
