I enjoyed this from its perspective of winter in the desert. I also liked the transition through the word "brown" into the personal perspective ofwaking and pondering. Great job--Ted

Hi Ted! Great hearing from you!

A wonderfully composed, melancholy free verse, Jewell. Yes, all too often (and especially in the matters of love and relationships) we hear but do not listen, we see, but do not really see. And, like the big hair band Cinderella's song so succinctly states, "You don't what you've got until it's gone..."
Well done. ~Dean :)

Thanks! I needed this. Blessed is the soul that can sink into creation -- even if it does take a cup of hot coffee to prime. So often I say that the Creator communes with His children through His creation. Thank you for being a faithful scribe.

For those where winter is severe, it is dreaded but in places where it is merely a hope, imagination can be enjoyable. I liked the lines:
'Willow branch
taps out a melodic tune
the vine stretches
forth a yawn'
Your poetic deftness has come to light in above lines besides others.
