Sad to say, I am not familiar with these comedians. I was born in the 70's. I had a good laugh at all of these jokes. The trophy wife was one of my favorites. Thank you for the definition of paraprosdokian. I had never heard that word, but have heard that type of joke.

Thank you for the read, I greatly appreciate it.

These two comedians are extremely quirky, but I love their offbeat way of thinking and their original take on the human condition.

as usual, to me, your writing is enjoyable, brilliant and I always feel better after reading. I so appreciate your sense of humor. I as well love comedy and watch youtube all the time, wondered if you have ever watched dara Obrien. I am now going to search for your two. Take care

First of all, many thanks for introducing me to the concept of the Paraprosdokian; I had never heard of it. My second point, I fear, is something you referred to yourself: 'I suppose I am in serious danger of over using excerpts from these comedic geniuses'. What makes it all the more frustrating is that your own voice, when we do hear it, is such a good one (eg 'when life suddenly retreats to the backside of the moon.' and 'Gratefully, we have court jesters who are willing to strut upon the stage and dare us to laugh at ourselves and to see the sheer absurdity of life.'

One typo:
'I said every picture is a picture of you when you w[h]ere younger."'

Thanks for the SPAG catch, I corrected it.

I knew when I was sorting through the excerpts for this post that I would find it too difficult to choose just a couple of examples of these two comics, as I just find them to be so clever.

I do hope you found something of interest in the write in spite of the multitude of excerpts. And I thank you for saying I had an interesting voice. That was most kind.

This is a great collection of one-liners. I was laughing the entire read. Thanks for posting this for us to enjoy. I wrote an posted an acrostic poem using 'paraprosdokian' last year. Interesting form of humor. Nice work.

Yes, Paraprosdokian is a very interesting form of humor. Some of the old comics, back in the day, e.g., Henny Youngman and Groucho Marx, used this form of humor a lot in their routines.

I'm happy this post made you laugh and I thank you for your review.

I love you humour. And in future when people ask me my religion I'm going to answer, paraprosdokian, it sounds so much better than catholic.

This is well written with no flaws

What a great idea to claim paraprosdokian as a religion. Can you just imagine what Sunday service would be like. Everyone would be rolling in the aisles.

    Glad you liked it.

I don¢??t know ... fix it. Call the post up and click on edit.

My favorite from out of the past is Father Guido Sarducci (spelling?)

Thanks for the 'gremlin' catch in the Author Notes; it's fixed.

I too loved Father Guido Sarducci (your spelling is correct). He was a riot on SNL.

    Thanks for the read.

I really miss the likes of Steven Wright. He was in a class all by himself. I loved the one where he explained everything in his apartment was replaced by exact replicas, and his roommates responded, "Do I know you?"

I also miss George Carlin. Thanks for the great nostalgic read. :)

While Steven Wright is still around he hasn't done any recent TV stints. I too miss seeing him, but I do bring his routines up on YouTube now and then.

George Carlin was one of my all time favorites. His books were a fun read. I read Napalm & Silly Putty, Brain Droppings and When Will Jesus Bring The Pork chops?

I'm happy this piece brought back good memories for you.

    Thanks for the read.

Marisa3:
I love this piece. I'm glad you couldn't decide which joke to
share to make your point because I don't which of the ones
you shared I would have wanted to miss (of course, if I never
knew about it, I suppose I would never have missed it, huh?)
thanks for sharing
jan

    Hi Jan,

I'm glad you enjoyed all the excerpts I included and didn't find them over done.

I just love the oddball humor of these two guys; their minds are so quick.

Thank you for a great review.
