A Christmas poem of sadness. I'm sorry for your daughter-in-law. I was pretty sure that last Christmas would be the last one with my Mom and I right. It is sad to know that no new memories will be made. Good luck in the contest.

Too bad mankind has not learn how to make the Christmas Season to be a daily experience through out the year. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a good read.

You are very kind to dedicate this seasonal poem to members of your extended family who are coping with a difficult situation. I admired your rhymes and lovely presentation. I hope pleasant memories from the past continue to warm you this season. Best wishes for 2015- Joan

Thanks Rebekka. We are all trying to have some normalcy. Still decorating and baking and doing gift exchanges.

I see all the Christmas poems are coming out Dallas! The quality of the entries will surely get me in the Christmas spirit. The art work IS excellent. "needles" needs an apostrophe. I like the different approach to looking at the not so happy aspects of Christmas and am sorry about your daughter-in-law's challenges. Good rhymes and consonance. I'd love to see the enjambment helped by not capitalizing the first letter in each line. Best of luck in the contest. Sue

"Gift Wrapped" is a poem that tries to help us to make the best of a bad situation. There is a perception, (due partly to the commercialization of Christmas), that everyone is happy at Christmas time. This poem attempts to bring a balance to bare. May God Bless You. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for reviewing. Yes,there is a lot of sadness this time of the year and it is certainly exacerbated by the fantasy that all is right with the world because of a date on the calendar.

Don't let that deter you from entering contests. I have been disqualified more than once. Especially by the ones with lots of rules. Have to read them closely.

Yes, I think this will be an especially difficult holiday season for many, for so many reasons. The world seems to have a serious illness.

Hi, Dallas,

A very difficult season for you daughter-in-law and family, indeed.

This summer, we lost 6 family members to cancer within a 4-month period. Such a sad and painful end.

Prayers with the all, as for you and your family. This as a lovely dedication.

*Happy Holidays* OR *Happy Hanukkah*

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jax (*;*)

Thank you for the heartfelt response. You know where we are coming from. this all happened so fast with one complication after another and her dad was in and out of the hospital at the same time. Had to have a stint put in his head. Both home now after a month of in and out of hospitals and nursing homes. My daughter in law is an Rn. And being able to put on that hat has been her saving grace.
