This is awesome, Lancellot. I thought you made great sense in this matter of refugees. It's a hard one to swallow, but you are right. I liked the Smith's house as an example. Well written. Best wishes in the contest.

This is a very impressive story. I like the way you presented the arguments for enforcement of immigration law in the form of a lesson. There is one sentence you should look at: "By the looks on your faces at that last line has some of you thinking." I think it would make more sense if you omited the word "at" after "faces". This story is very good.

Lance-
Nice to see a piece giving the merits and the realities of both sides of an issue for a change. Facts and emotional hot buttons combined to give a fairly honest perspective on this, and ending with the challenge to any and all to bring their own realistic solution along with historical references.
Lance for Congress, sez me.

A very unexpected story, considering the first line.

Lots to think on. A political commentary on a hot current topic - the elephant in the room of America! - and served up in such an interesting, attention-gripping way.

Best wishes in the contest, lance. I think this is a very worthy entry. Very well done!

Glad I don't have to write that essay. The best example I know is Canada. Specially conceived immigration programs for skilled workers that adress strictly to each state's job surplus so nobody loses and everybody wins. Knowing the language at a medium level is mandatory.. At the opposite corner the European Union of chaos. All go anywhere no matter what one was, plumber or killer. Most come to UK now and it is hilarious to see their face all happiness when an English tells them "you daft cunt" and they thank...

Brilliant!! This story should be required reading in all public school (assuming the students have learned how to read). I loved the line about if you think unregulated immigration is valid, ask a Native American. I sometimes think we are headed in that direction. Six stars for you. The best story I've read on Fanstory.com so far. Keep on writing! You have a future in this field.

This was an incredible read and l was hooked on this right from the start. It was a deep subject yet done in a way that was easy to read from the start. I felt as if l was in a debating society listening to both sides of the argument. The message came across very clearly. Immigration can be a problem. World war 2 highlighted another aspect of this when the Jews were trying to flee Germany and some countries took them in and some didn't. Even today, this argument remains a topical discussion. I loved the example you gave. A family wanting to move into someone else's house. The plot was excellent, the characters realistic and this is the best writing l have read in a long time. Good luck with the contest, you are a very strong contender. Loved every word of this. Genya

I liked all your analogies and the fact that you left it up to the reader to decide, make an opinion on this very hot topic. I don't profess to know enough about it, I don't live there. Liberals say let them come in, you can't be mean to them, they have children. Realists say enough is enough. I am afraid I am with the realists. A country has to have laws and an orderly society, people have to enter legally or not at all. The reason they are trying to flee their own is of course money, but also their own country lacks laws and an orderly society. Difficult one to solve. Well written in the classroom setting, sometimes the youngsters are smarter than the adults! Enjoyable read. Faye

I congratulate you on a piece very well written. It engaged me from the beginning and surprisingly, (because we often say this,) but this was VERY thought-provoking, and it made sense. Giddy
