This is hilarious, and so true - grandparents do love to spoil their grandchildren, often to the chagrin of parents who don't want their kids to be little greedy guts :-)
Good wry humor as you suggest this grandmother is not willing to listen to what her child has to say about raising the little one and instilling the right values :-) Brooke

LMAO!!!! What a great manipulation of the senryu form! I love that it takes a time delayed second to "get it" (personally, I am a big fan of the subtle quip as opposed to the obvious "lay it all out there" kind.)
Even funnier - it suits the old saying so well - "There is a reason stereotypes exist" LOL - looks like you are experiencing the reality of it :-)

Thanks for your great comments lorraine :) shame the committee disqualified my entry for having 17 syllables and not "less than 17" as specified in the rules! Lol! Debs x

Hi Debra

Great irony and a chuckle here. In my household, both Grandma's were hard of hearing when it came to buying noisy toys that needed batteries.
I think that saying might be applied to when one develops character ....... my children always seemed to be 'bought' (lol). The bigger kids ..... the grandmas, were viciously competitive for the favours of my babes.

Grandma's and their foibles .... hahahaha! A few tales here I imagine ... might be a good contest in itself. Wishing you the best of luck in the contest. This is certainly 'up there'. I love your clear-eyed wit. Huge hugs - Lovi xoxox

Hi Lovi :) thank you so much for your great feedback and good luck wishes. I appreciate both! One grandma tries to 'buy' the kids, the other one gives them an abundance of attention. Guess which grandma the kids prefer to spend time with?! Nonetheless they are both loved equally!
So glad to see you back :) huge hugs back at you xx

    Hi Debra, dear sweet gal

I had the same, one gave the gifts and had no real interest in spending time, the other would tell them stories and be interested in theirs. Yes, I know which one the kids preferred to have in their company. In deference to the other one, she lost her mother when she was two and had no real love and mothering herself .... so she didn't know how it felt.

Thank you for your lovely welcome back. I missed everyone and am pleased to be here once again. I guess I'll spend forever catching up .... as usual. LOL

I hope all is well on the home front ... the kids a little older .... hmmm ... I think that might be better .... then maybe not. LOL you look lovely in your latest profile pic and I'm assuming the 'taking time out for yourself' makes a huge difference. :)) Take care, keep well and safe. Love Lovi xoxox

As a grandmother myself, I had to chuckle over this senyru. We do love to spoil our "grands" Very fun senyru which meets all the requirements of the contest, though I've never seen four line senyru before.

Hi Val, thank you for your great feedback. I think it's obligatory to spoil grandchildren isn't it?! That's what my mother-in-law tells me anyway! You're not the first to mention about 4 lines being unusual for a senryu, I followed the prompt guidelines but have now decided to alter my entry to the usual 3 lines! Kindest regards as always, Debra

It's our God Given Right, Debra! I know the rules said you could do four lines, but for the clarity and reviewers that NEVER read the prompt it was probably a wise move. Hugs

1st time I've seen a FOUR line senryu, Debs, but I'm no expert and it's OK'd in the rules.

Maybe a little sarcastic dig at grandmother who perhaps thinks sweets and gifts will buy her love.

Mind you, it often does, as my FAVOURITE, LOL, Uncle Ted always gave me a ten shilling note when I saw him, as a kid - a fortune in those days

Good luck and best wishes, Ray

Hi Debra. I like the sentiment expressed here. Grandmas know nothing of that old saying. They're proof to me its erroneous. Good luck. I think you've got a winner here. Kenny

What a brilliant expression, it's very heartwarming and sweet it's also very true for nearly every grandparent, your presentation was perfect, it was almost like a greeting card, good luck in the competition, it has my vote,
Andrew

Hi Andrew :) What a lovely review! Thank you so much for your lovely comments, I really appreciate it :) I best go put a copyright on this one... the person who reviewed before you also said this senryu would make a nice card or be great printed on gifts and stuff! How cool would that be ?! LOL!
